Arizona @ Oregon: Speed on speed

Ka'Deem Carey

Ka'Deem Carey is evolving into the play making RB Rich Rodriguez's offense needs to be successful.

Let the chess match begin as both #3 Oregon and #22 Arizona prepare to counter the others offensive firepower.

    • Good article Gary

    • Thanks Jim.

    • i think you meant 2 years ago the Cats led 19-14 at half (i was there). last year they blitzed us out of the gate.

"Last season, the Wildcats led Oregon 19-14 at halftime before the Ducks exploded for 377 second-half yards and 34 points to win going away, 56-31."

    • I think Gary, like most of us, has forever put out of mind what Oregon did to us in 2011. That and Stanford were the games when you really saw our guys giving up; when you knew the writing was on the wall for Stoops' future.

    • Unless we play virtually mistake free and force several turnovers, I don't see us winning. However, all the pressure is on the ducks as we are expected to lose big, so we can just play loose and without fear.

Wouldn't that be something if we could somehow win this game?

    • Several years ago inOreGone, Arizona played the Ducks pretty even, except for a few penalties. in the second half they pulled away with their speed and conditioning.

We may not have enough talent or depth on defense to beat the Ducks, but I believe it will be close.

    • Gary hit on something that is of paramount importance for this week-- ".......positioning, angle pursuit and winning the chess match...".
There is speed, then there is reaction and quickness. They are not exactly the same for players. I see in Casteel's sets extremely quick recognition of what the offense is about to do. We look through the grill very well. That's a huge plus. Our first step to close on the ball is extremely good...quick. Above that, we are fast in closing speed, we do hit pretty darned well, we tackle in the open very well, and we wrap better than I've seen in a long time.....ok, going back to the 80s and 90s to be plain about it.

The chore is, to close down the two excellent backs/receivers, and get some heat on the QB.

We're going to get our points.
We have to get the stops, and its as simple as that.

    • You guys are so sure w'll get our points, but Oregon's defense is pretty strong ... We caught OK ST off guard, but other than that we have not faced any sort of defensive competence. I think Oregon is going to shut us down in ways that will be all too familiar.

    • Duck fan here.

I have a lot of respect for Arizona and I think you guys make a game of it because of the offensive talent but the Oregon talent will be too much.

If it's a close game there is one player that will change the game; De'Anthony Thomas.

I don't know if you remember how dominant Reggie Bush was, he ripped my Ducks apart, but DAT is from the same mold. There is no amount of speed, angles or sure tackling to combat what he does. It's really not fair.

I don't think this will be a blowout by any means but the talent gap should be too much. We are not OkeSt and we are certainly not Toledo.

You can question our schedule but Fresno State did pretty well against a fellow Pac-12 school last week, albeit Colorado.

I hope for a challenging game and a Duck victory.
