State's top prospect eyeing Cats

Priest Willis

Priest Willis is not only the state's best player, but one of the nation's top prospects.

Priest Willis has many of the nation's elite after him, but Arizona is hanging around.

    • In reality what are our chances of landing him? I would love land him but with all of his offers its hard to see how he would stay in state. I hope that us having a teammate of his already committed helps us and rich rod is trying to sway him to come here.

    • At LSU or Nebraska he rides the bench until his Junior or senior year. At Arizona, as soon as he develops physically he'll be on the field. He'd be a star and get all sorts of attention - if making 'the big show' is what he wants.

This staff is as a good as any - hard to compete with nationals champions, but he's smart to consider AZ.

    • I agree wineknow. I'm sure that rich rod has to be selling this kid playing time in our defensive system. I would love to see what kind of impact he would have on arizona recruiting if he decides to pick us.

    • Physically priest Willis has developed great( 6'2 3/4 205lb he is going to play wherever he goes

    • He would play as a true freshman at Nebraska. Cornerback or nickel. He will definitely see the field early wherever he goes.

Sits on the bench at LSU? Are you retarded? Do you realize how many DBs LSU churns out on a yearly basis? Do you realize the opportunity for DBs to get noticed at a school such as LSU. Kids who might sit on the bench at LSU for a year have a better shot at the NFL then starting all four at Arizone where they will never be heard from again. I see your point where Priest would be a star there, but come on man its not like Zona's defense is full of world class players who could help him out.

There are a lot of players who could come in as freshman to Arizona and become stars except I havent heard of many. We have a true freshman starting at corner for us right now and a junior CB and S who may be a first to second rounders next year. You cant tell me that LSU doesn't give defensive backs one of the best opportunities to learn and get ready for the NFL. If you need proof just look at your Cardinals and thank us for Patrick Peterson.

I was not suggesting that we have better DBs than LSU. But I would make that point about any star player. At USC, Ohio State, Florida... Stars get lost in the mix. Quick, name usc's second best receiver. Most can't - he buried under all the Woods PR. But ill bet he was ranked similar to this kid and at Utah, Cal or Iowa, he'd be nationally known and headed for a conference all star team, and he'd have more catches. At Arizona or Washington, Michigan State or Kentucky... A star football can dominate and get lots of attention, earlier and for longer.

Those players can define programs and become lifelong heroes to those schools. Rex Chapman, Sean Elliott are great basketball examples. How about Doug Flutie or ummmm let's see... Teddy Brusci, ever hear of him?

And while I honor LSU's DB's, you are so wrong about Arizona's history. Quick, name the handful of schools that have produced multiple Thorpe award winners? LSU is one... But so is Arizona.

I seem to recall a pretty spectacular freshman named Cason. Or was that McAllister? No, maybe it was Lewis, Evans or Cecil... There have been so many, I get them confused.

    • Status-- Willis is interested, a lot of work has been done, and contact is consistent. He likes this staff, and he has seen the progress the program has made. 40-60 chance, but....it's possible.

    • Willis is a longshot, but the staff is doing a very good job with him. The fact that Peterson is playing for the Cardinals is one reason Willis started looking at LSI.

    • +1 wineknow, Arizona has had many years of good defenses. I think sometimes the south eastern United States forget that there is defense played in other parts of the country as well. Selfishly hoping Willis ends up in South Bend, doubt we have a shot, but a strong post.
