TUCSON, Ariz. – Each week, Arizona football head coach Rich Rodriguez and his staff will select six Player of the Week honorees based on performance leading up to and including the game each week. The Wildcats, now ranked No. 24 by the Associated Press and No. 25 in the USA Today poll, upset then-No. 18 Oklahoma State, 59-38, Saturday night at Arizona Stadium.
Offense: Ka’Deem Carey, Sophomore, Running Back
Carey scored a career-high four touchdowns and rushed for 126 yards and three scores on 26 carries while adding 28 yards and another score on four pass receptions. He topped 100 yards for the second-straight game, and with 273 total rushing yards, ranks second in the Pac-12 and ninth nationally in rushing yards.
Defense: Jared Tevis, Sophomore, Safety
Tevis led the defense with his first two career interceptions, a pass breakup and nine tackles on Saturday night. His picks were two of the four turnovers forced by the UA defense, which provided the Wildcats with a plus-four turnover margin in the game, their largest single-game margin since the 2008 opener against Idaho.
Tevis’ second interception helped seal the game in the fourth quarter. With the Wildcats leading by 14, Tevis picked off a Wes Lunt pass at the UA 35-yard line and returned it 32 yards to set up another score to put the game out of reach with a three-touchdown advantage.
Special Teams: John Bonano, Senior, Kicker
Bonano was perfect in his kicking duties Saturday night. He was 3-for-3 on field goals with kicks of 22, 46 and 24 yards while also connecting on 6-of-6 PAT attempts. Bonano also handled kickoff duties with 11 for 674 yards on the game. He averaged 61.4 yards per kick and recorded four touchbacks.
From the scout team, sophomore quarterback Nick Isham on offense, senior defensive lineman Christian Upshaw on defense and sophomore safety Keahi Hogan on special teams were also honored for their effort during the Oklahoma State preparations.
