A month before national signing day, the Wildcats have already gotten a jump start on the 2014 recruiting class. On Saturday the Wildcats not only landed a verbal commitment, but one from a big time player.
Local player commits to Wildcats.
Cameron Denson, a 6-1, 170-pound wide receiver/cornerback from Tucson’s Salpointe High School committed to Arizona on Saturday.
“Yes, it’s true,” Denson said of media reports of a commitment to the Wildcats.
Denson has long been considering the Wildcats and several members of his family have liked the idea of keeping the versatile athlete home. Denson has been on the Wildcats’ radar screen since his sophomore year.
Denson helped lead Salpointe to the semi-finals of the D-II state playoffs, playing a number of positions including wide receiver, defensive back and even quarterback when injuries arose for the Lancers this season.
Denson is a 247Composite four-star recruit with a 0.9817 rating. He’s the 45th ranked player in the nation and the top ranked recruit in the state for the 2014 season. Including passing, Denson accounted for over 1,900 yards of total offense and 25 scores, leading the Lancers to a 12-2 record.
He is the first commit for the Wildcats in the 2014 recruiting class.
WSR will have more on the Denson commitment over the next few days including scouting report, interview and his overall impact on the program
