48 hours after losing to the UCLA Bruins in the Pac-12 tournament, Arizona learned they will play the Bruins again…the Belmont Bruins. The Wildcats will face the Ohio Valley Conference winner in Salt Lake City on Thursday.
Belmont is 26-6 and won the regular season and the tournament title in the OVC. They have wins over tournament teams Middle Tennessee State and South Dakota State, as well as a road win over Stanford. The Bruins also fell to tournament teams Kansas and VCU, as well as 21-game winner Central Florida.
They are the fourth best shooting team in the nation, shooting a hair under 50% from the field and are also the 15th best scoring team in the nation. That being said, they were held to under 50% by Stanford, Kansas and Central Florida.
They are a small team, without a player over 6-7 in their rotation, but have great guards. Ian Clark averages 18 points a game, while Kerron Johnson averages 13.7 points and nearly five assists a game.
The teams will play on Thursday, in Salt Lake City with the winner getting the winner of New Mexico and Harvard. Arizona has played Utah in Salt Lake City once already this season, but that game was in the Huntsman Center and this game will be at EnergySolutions Arena, home of the Utah Jazz.
