FAIRFAX, CALIF. – Look out basketball world, there’s another Mason on the rise in Southern California. Trey Mason, son of former Arizona Wildcat Harvey Mason, Jr. hit six treys by halftime (20 points) to help lead Los Angeles Loyola High School past El Camino Real 82-47 in the Nike Fairfax Summer Basketball Classic.
Harvey Mason helped lead the Wildcats to three Pac-10 Conference titles in the late 1980’s. His basketball career started here in Los Angeles at Crescenta Valley High School before earning a scholarship to Arizona and playing under Lute Olson. Today, Mason is a world-renowned record producer still living in California’s southern basin.
Trey Mason, a junior, is an up-and-coming shooting guard who has similar athleticism to his father. He has a nice first step off the dribble, but an even more impressive jump shot that helped him explode onto the scene today at Fairfax High.
Loyola next plays Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the Fairfax Tournament.
