Instant Analysis: Arizona 49-48

John Bonano

John Bonano finishes his Arizona career on a high note with a game deciding on-side kick and game-winning extra point that were both perfectly executed.

Arizona's miracle in New Mexico won't soon be forgotten by Wildcat fans and players desperately searching for momentum entering the 2013 season.

    • Great Job as usual Dazzy! Now rest your typing fingers for Florida.

    • Daz, you are hereby awarded a mental night of bliss with Holly....good write-up.
You touched on the story; the willingness to fight through and play to the final gun. Last year, this team would have folded the tent and shuffled off the field. This year, that outcome was not good enough.

Matt and Ka'deem and Austin and Garic and the entire offense played their hearts out and came up with 14 in the last .46....and in anyone's game, that is some going.

Carey's 171 (or 172....not sure)...and 3TDs assures his title, and set him up for great things next year.

The best things out of this game are these:
We are an 8-game winner. At 8-5, that puts us in many more living rooms, and may have sealed two recruits as of today.
We have momentum, and instead of having to shake off an embarrassing loss, the guys can look forward to weights, running, and spring ball.
No one outside the program (including fans) will remember the horrid defense we played in this game that made us have to come back. It was godawful. It really was worse than it looked on tv....up close, it was....6 downs of diarrhea, then one down of good play.....However, as I said, that will soon be forgotten outside the minds of players and coaches. Recruits watching will say...."they won, and I can help them".....and that's a good thing.

All anyone will talk about is..."Arizona almost blew it and then came back in spectacular fashion to win!"

      Thank heaven for short memories.

I suspect that by spring ball, we will see some real change on defense. We have to. We have the huge task of cutting defensive yield to opponents by HALF next year.

8-5.....that was my goal for year one, and we're there.
      Now let's go for double-digits.
