Carey earns Walter Camp Award

The sophomore running back is the first offensive player in Arizona history named to the Walter Camp All-America team.

Ka'Deem led the nation in rushing this season and produced over 2,000 all-purpose yards.

TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona sophomore Ka’Deem Carey has been named to the Walter Camp First-Team All-America list, it was released on Thursday. The Walter Camp All-America team is being announced in conjunction with The Home Depot College Football Awards show (ESPN, Thursday, 7:30 ET).

Carey is the first offensive player in Arizona history named to the Walter Camp All-America team. He is the Wildcats’ first honoree since defensive back Antoine Cason in 2007. Carey joins a list of nine defensive specialists who have collected 10 Walter Camp All-America certificates (Antoine Cason, DB, 2007; Chris McAlister, DB, 1998; Tedy Bruschi, DL, 1994 and 1995; Tony Bouie, DB, 1994; Rob Waldrop, DL, 1993; Darryl Lewis, DB, 1990; Chuck Cecil, DB, 1987; Allen Durden, DB, 1985; Ricky Hunley, LB, 1983) as Arizona’s 10th player earning the 11th honor in school history.

He leads the nation in rushing yards per game (146.42) and ranks No. 2 nationally in total rushing yardage (1,757). Carey is No. 5 nationally in total all-purpose yards (2,061) and ranks seventh nationally in all-purpose yards per game (171.8). He leads the nation in total yards from scrimmage (2,045) and ranks second nationally in yards from scrimmage per game (170.4).

Carey’s 54 plays of 10+ yards and his 20 plays of 20+ yards lead the nation. His 21 total touchdowns (20 rushing and one receiving) rank No. 8 nationally. His 20 rushing touchdowns are seventh nationally.

The Tucson native now sports five first-team All-America honors this season, by CBSSports.com (Dec. 3), Athlon Sports (Dec. 4), Scout.com/FOXSportsNEXT.com (Dec. 6), The Sporting News (Dec. 6) and the Walter Camp Football Foundation (Dec. 6). The All-America teams from the Associated Press (AP, Dec. 11) and the Football Writers’ Association of America (FWAA, Dec. 14) have yet to be released. Any player listed on three of the four – AP, FWAA, Walter Camp, The Sporting News – is considered a consensus All-American.
