One Fine Day

Nick Johnson

Nick Johnson and teammates turned up the defensive heat on Florida Saturday to "steal" victory from defeat and beat the Gators 65-64.

Arizona football and basketball proved what it means to "Bear Down" Saturday as each overcome immeasurable odds to produce stunning, come-from-behind victories.

    • The question is wato, when is the last time you actually slept?

      For you, "What a night."

I have now watched the same Sports Center replays of the two games numerous times. A copy of Gary's writeup has been copied to go with the newspaper from Tucson. When you describe the finishes to others it is going to sound like pure BS unless you are talking to someone who saw them both.

    • rdotrbennett,

Sleep is relative. I took a pretty long siesta before the football game yesterday in the afternoon. When the football game ended I literally had to force myself to go to bed (being more than just a tad amped up). I slept for about five hours or whatever and then got to see the whole bball game. I just re-watched the bball game on a replay via ESPN int'l. It is so much easier watching the game calm and knowing the outcome.........what is better is having the capacity to watch with a critical eye during the replay and knowing that the freshmen got a hardcore lesson in what it takes to be ready for a team like Florida. As much as the Gators controlled things they certainly could not put us away. And when the freshmen learn to take care of the ball and know that contact is not always going to be called, we will be that much better. One game at a time, but I sure as heck like winning hard earned lessons. If we keep pace and Florida keeps pace we just might see them again down the road in a surpremely more important game.

Heck of a point wato: this may not be the last time Arizona and Florida see one another this season.

    • The flight back to Tucson was awesome. Everyone kept turning around to stare at the trophy. Then when they walked it into McKale, the place just went nuts. Lots of tears in the stands and on the floor. The b-ball players got a whole load of that passion in the hallway on the way out for the second half.

It was a huge day of BEAR DOWN.

Now to reality...I have to go climb a ladder to fix my Christmas lights....at least I'll whistle while I work..... :)

Good luck with the Christmas lights, and yes there's no doubt the football team arriving at McKale to be honored gave the basketball fans even more pep in their step. I've heard from so many alums last night and today and everyone has talked about how great it is to finally feel "great" about the direction of each program at the "same time."

      Bear Down!
