Last week I went 9-2, but let's be honest, I should have done that or better. If I was really smart I would have picked the Cal and Colorado upsets. This week it gets harder as six Pac-12 teams play BCS Conference teams.
Friday
Utah at Utah State
Utah was hardly challenged a week ago against Northern Colorado, but will take a step up in competition this week. The Utes take on a pesky Utah State team and do so on the road, though they will hardly have to travel very far.
Utah 31, Utah State 17
Saturday
Southern Utah at Cal
The Bears will finally win in their revamped stadium. The only question I have is the same one I have every week, "how does Jeff Tedford not have a good QB?"
Cal 38, Southern Utah 7
Sacramento State at Colorado
The only compelling thing in this game with the fact that one team is known as "Sac State" and the others are the "Buffs." Third grade humor aside, the Buffs get one of their few wins this season.
Colorado 35, Sac State 14
Eastern Washington at WSU
The school best known for Colin Cowherd and red astro turf tries to beat a team whose coach loves pirates. The Cougs were less than impressive last week against BYU. They may still not be showcasing the Air Raid offense as it was designed, but they will score some points.
WSU 30, E. Wash 13
USC at Syracuse
These two schools have produced some of the best tailbacks in NCAA history. On Saturday the best tailback will be a player who was enrolled at Penn State two months ago. The Trojans have to go on the road but it won't matter.
USC 56, Syracuse 21
Wisconsin at Oregon State
The Beavers are playing their first game of the season after the hurricane forced Nichols State to stay back in Louisiana. Wisconsin is making the road trip, and that will make things closer, but give the Badgers the win.
Wisconsin 31, Oregon State 17
Fresno State at Oregon
Remember when Pat Hill's Bulldogs would play anyone, anywhere and could steal a win? Neither do the Duck players. The real drama will be what uniform the Ducks wear.
Oregon 51, Fresno State 17
Washington at LSU
Heading to Death Valley is never an easy task, just ask Willie Tuitama. Washington is a good football team, but LSU is a great football team.
LSU 31, UW 17
Nebraska at UCLA
UCLA had a great win last week but they get a much better opponent. The Huskers could become the second red and white Big 10 team to win at a Pac-12 school this weekend.
Nebraska 27, UCLA 14
Illinois at ASU
The Illini had a lackluster win over a MAC team last weekend, while ASU put the hurt on NAU. ASU is better than a MAC team, while Illinois is much better than NAU. Both teams have new coaches, but it will be Illinois' who gets the first loss.
ASU 20, Illinois 17
Duke at Stanford
This would make a great academic decathlon match-up. It would even be a decent basketball game. Football, not so much. I think the Cardinal are a bit overrated, but they can beat Duke,
Stanford 31, Duke 16
Oklahoma State at Arizona
OSU has dominated the Wildcats the past two seasons. This time they have to head to Tucson and do so with a true freshman quarterback. Don't expect the blowout of the past two meetings, but...
OSU 31, Arizona 24
Last Week: 9-2
Season: 9-2
