SCROGGINS SET TO JOIN FOOTBALL PROGRAM
Junior college quarterback Jesse Scroggins has signed a National Letter of Intent and will be eligible to play for the Arizona football team in fall 2013.
TUCSON, Ariz. – Junior college quarterback Jesse Scroggins has signed a National Letter of Intent and will be eligible to play for the Arizona football team in fall 2013 as a redshirt junior. Scroggins was a four-star recruit from Lakewood (Calif.) High School in 2010.
The No. 6 quarterback in the 2010 class according to Scout.com, he is a dual-threat quarterback with a strong arm and the ability to run. Scroggins spent the 2010 (redshirt) and 2011 seasons at USC before transferring to El Camino College for the 2012 season.
At El Camino College in 2012, Scroggins played in eight games and threw for 1,148 yards and eight touchdowns. He also had two rushing touchdowns.
In his senior season at Lakewood, Scroggins threw 35 touchdowns and just five interceptions, and rushed for another three scores. He completed 163-of-258 passes for 2,395 yards. As a junior in 2008, he completed 176-of-314 passes for 2,462 yards with 23 TDs and, as a sophomore in 2007, he completed 101-of-166 passes for 1,517 yards with 17 TDs.
His 2009 honors included Under Armour All-American, Super Prep All-American, Prep Star All-American, Prep Star Dream Team, Super Prep All-Farwest, Prep Star All-West, Orange County Register Fab 15 second-team, Long Beach Press-Telegram Best in the West first-team, Tacoma News Tribune Western 100, Cal-Hi Sports All-State second-team, All-CIF Pac-5 Division first-team and All-Moore League MVP.
After winning the Gildan New Mexico Bowl on Dec. 15, Arizona ended the 2012 season with an 8-5 record and a bowl trip in head coach Rich Rodriguez's first season at the helm of the Wildcat program.
