DT swaps pledge

Mekari now a Bear.

Arizona’s 2013 recruiting class suffered a mild set back on Tuesday with the loss of a defensive recruit.

Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake High School defensive tackle Tony Mekari de-committed from Arizona and committed to Cal.

Mekari visited Arizona over the weekend and seemingly re-affirmed his commitment to the Wildcats as he reportedly cancelled an official visit to Cal. The Bears had just offered Mekari a scholarship last week.

Mekari chose to make an unofficial visit to the Bears and that led to him swapping his pledge from the Wildcats to Cal.

Mekari originally committed to Arizona in late July. He was one of just two defensive tackle commits and one of just four defensive line commits in the class. Luca Bruno remains the only defensive tackle commit in the class.

All told the Wildcats have 24 commits, assuming that all end up signing, and can add one more to the class. Two additional recruits have already enrolled at the semester.
