A little football news

  • For our friends in the outer reaches. It looks like we had a big time DE prospect visit who is from N.M. He's about 6-6, 240 and a stud. We're also going to be getting a visit from Solomon, the QB from Bishop Gorman within a week or so, which is really good news imo.

One of the fun, outside the box things that RichRod has started doing is carrying a big ole water pistol so that when the punt returners get ready to catch the ball, they get a blast from the soaker. It's to enhance concentration, but I imagine it's got to be kind of fun as well. This guy doesn't miss a psychological or intensity tick, period.

  • Oh, little more news. From what I understand Wharton has been moved to the outside and looked pretty decent; actually held on to about 3 balls. Buckner had a nice scrimmage and Slavin led receivers again with 9 catches. This was all on the Saturday scrimmage two days ago.

  • With his speed, Wharton could make an impact on the outside. He's also still a tad slight, so he should be more effective in space.

  • Wharton's alignment on the outside in these sets is not a big change. It's just that in the previous offense, the inside slot looked like what we now align as an outside wing.......he would have been the pick man in the other offense, now he's the receiver.. Anyway, if Wharton gets loose, he's gone. He just blows by people in about two steps. He's going to have a TD this year, and if he gets one, he's going to get more.

Scott and Buckner look good; Slavin is picking up from where he was last year. We'll be fine.

I think we will get the NM kid....and he a is a quick guy.

I hope we land the Bishop Gorman QB...he has skills...besides, us Gaels have to pull for each other.

I coach youth basketball and when the kids are doing layup drills and going up for layups I hit them with a nerf paddle...helps them to understand the contact portion of the sport and to keep their focus on the hoop for game situations where they will get fouled etc...

  • RBob1, I really hope we get him as well. I remember watching him against Chap in the first game of the year on Fox, I think in both of the past two years. I also think we have a great shot at Troy Williams, a very highly regarded QB out of Harbor City, Narbonne, CA. His coach is our former TE under Dick Tomey, Brandon Manamaluena (sp?).
