Cats beat Augustana

  • How about a little hoops coverage. Cats beat Augustana 70-59 in exibition. I only heard a few minutes on the radio. I heard Kyryl didn't play becuase of concussion and Bejarano didn't play at all, why?

Anybody go to the game? The score doesn't seem impressive, but I'm wondering how they looked.

  • I atched the game on the internet. Bejarano is not doing well in practice and is clearly the 12th man on the team right now. There are no discipline problems but he is way behind the other guys. KNAT has a concussion but should be back for Idaho State. DWILL was DWILL. Fogg shot poorly but scored 11 points and shut down Auugstana's top player who had 25 against Arizona last year. HOrne was steady as was Perry. Lavender played very well as did AJ. Parrom was spotty, MoMO terrible and Jordin Mayes showed spots of brillance in 11 minutes with 9 points and some good plays but also some really bad D. Right now I have to wonder if Daniel Bejarano redshirts this year.

    Jim,
Interesting statement regarding DB. What leads you to say that you know its not discipline related and that he's not practicing well? I haven't heard that anywhere and was kinda hoping he'd be a big contributor this year... maybe even secure the backup SG spot behind Fogg. Any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  • 70-59 against Augustana...Did she bring her 4 sisters with her or what's the deal here? Hmmm...Don't tell me...

  • I'm with Ben on this one: I had also thought that DB would be a real force for us this year, and it is very discouraging to read that he has done SO poorly in practice that he wasn't even allowed to play in an exhibition game.

That doesn't sound AT ALL like the kid that I have been reading so much about.

And, disappointment #2 obviously has to be MoMo (who is FAR more important to the team than DB is).

I have pinned all of my lofty predictions for this year's team on MoMo's shoulders, thinking that he was going to make a quantum leap from last year.

To say that I am a little concerned would be an understatement hoops

It is just one game, though, and obviously WAY to early to form any conclusions. Still..............it would have been nice to make a statement.

  • DB's fine, but his defense needs to improve dramatically if he's to play against the kind of competition Arizona faces.

Not surprising as defense is generally the biggest weakness for most freshman. Unfortunately for DB, defense is important to Miller so he needs to continue to improve so he's not a liability on the floor, especially when playing a position (SG) that will pit him against the more athletic scorers for each opponent.

  • Good to know that it was "only" his defense, Gary! :-)

Although significant, it is, as you say, not something that Freshmen tend to specialize in.

We can be patient as young DB learns to value defense as much as Sean Miller does hoops

    Thanks for easing my concern.
