  • Fast and tiny. Well that fills a need we haven't recruited for.

  • 160 pounds...better be fast...real fast....

    beat oregon

  • Didn't look that good on film. Some shiftyness but not much in terms of breakaway speed. I've gotta be wrong though. d1 doesn't recruit 5'9 if it ain't fast

  • He was heavily recruited, and Coach Rod wanted him at Michigan. He is somewhat like Mike Thomas.....and if he ever gives us the runback that Mike gave us against aswhoever, he is well worh recruiting. :)

  • Michigan and West Virginia wanted him out of HS, but the rest of his offers were less impressive, though still BCS schools. Talked to some scouts who saw him in HS and most felt he could develop into a good player. Still trying to do my homework on him. Does not look like he played at Hutchison last season, still trying to find out why.

That must be it, he is so fast, none of the scouts were able to actually see him at that size. Michigan and WVU must have been using high speed cameras to film him so they could slow it down and see him.

  • 160?! Is that safe? I'm 5'8" and at 160 (years ago) people called me 'skinny'.

I trust that RR knows what he's doing here... and I think Mike Thomas had an instinct and play making ability that made up for his size. So did David Adams come to think of it and wasn't Ontwan Carter about 5'9"? So if he's got those instincts, I'm all for it.

But the reality is that this is the type of player top tier schools recruit as novelty and schools like arizona recruit to fill gaps in speed etc.. No matter how special the small guys are, over all they are at a big disadvantage.

  • Some are making it seem like 5'9 players don't get recruited when in reality the majority of CBs are under 6 feet although the media guide will list them at 6'2 or some other incorrect height and size.

They get recruited as slot receivers because they are really 5'7.

  • Yes, that too. The truth is you've got some short guys everywhere on the field. The weight does concern me, but that's always an easy fix.

  • Apparently Holloway does not do interviews, but did comment that he loves to prove all those who doubt him about his height wrong when he steps on the field.

of course he does. So did Napoleon. That's referred to as a 'Napoleon Complex'.

Thought you knew about the "Shire Complex".

Why can Oregon and all the SEC schools get 5 stars with speed AND size, but we're lucky to land a three star with Brad height and Pee Wee Herman weight? When you're that small you have to be fast or you'll get beat up by everyone.

  • Oregon does not have a ton of giants out there. Speed is what they covet.

  • Just to be clear, I am very excited about speed. I'm sure the guru's here can post 40 yard times of all of Stoops and Mackovics players that show we were the fastest team in the history of college football, but from my observation we have sorely lacked that burning, break away speed that Tomey almost always had at multiple spots on the team. Carter, Levy, Bates....et al.... they literally would out run DB's from the best PAC-10 teams in the open field. We've also lacked that quick, explosive, short distance speed at LB and DL.

So we sorely need speed and if the guy weighs 140 lbs, I'd still be excited, although scared on his behalf!

The caveat for me though is that without size and talent, speed is just a novelty. That Auburn-Oregon game proved that a few years ago. Oregon's speed and innovative offense kept them in the game. Auburn's speed, size, more traditional approach (physical) and over all talent allowed them to win.

  • Wine for once we agree. I have long said the thing Stoops teams lacked on offense was true gamebreakers. Thomas mayhave been the lone guy in 8 years who combined 40 speed and game speed. Criner was a gamebreaker despite his speed.

Thomas is probably the only guy you could put anywhere near Bates, Levy or Trung. That is why he was a high draft choice.

    Cats need REAL gameday burners.
