Hopefully Obert isn't getting our hopes up... Too many bad memories from Devin Fuller picking UCLA.

It's all part of the fun. Some we win and some we lose. However, most of the news occurs during the chase. Once it's done, it's on to other things.

  • This tool was saying UofA was out of it last week. We are at least the 3rd school he has said Neal will pick. Hope his last call is the right one.

  • Nobody in the country has covered Neal's recruitment better, or in greater detail than 247 Sports' Jason Sapp. Sapp's full article is below for our VIPs.

ATH Davonte Neal made his choice, still scheduled to announce

Four-star Davonte Neal used the last week to dissect his four remaining finalists, and his decision has now been made. The plan is still to let the choice be known on Feb. 21.

  • Hoping Neal chooses UofA. However, don't be too surprised if it's ND. Have heard the staff at ND believe he is going to end up at ND.

  • I actually like the way Davonte's father speaks with the press. If anything it is only my own impatience which is driving me crazy about this. But as for the kid and his dad they really seem to have a good perspective on the decision making process and understanding that there is in fact a large part of life outside of football. The fact that he is including a teacher and other school administrators in on the day confirms imo a class act. I also like the way his dad has said that Devonte is going to call the school individually and thank them for their interest.
Let's see what happens, but after reading this article I will respect any decision made and wish the Neal family all the best.

Wato, I would completely agree. The tragedy has obviously hurt whatever the decision is and regardless of the decision you do have to respect it.

  • If the tragedy influenced the decision, I would guess that he may pick Arizona....closer to home and loved ones, they can come and see him in more games, he can get home if any other thing happens, he stays in better touch with family.

That of course all makes sense, but the decison is his. One thing for sure; Arizona Football will move ahead no matter what he does. We'd love to have him, but if we don't get him, we go on.

You can shake it,if you believe what Coach Rodriguez stated from the beginning.'This Staff will make it a Priority to win the commitments of the highest rated recruits in "A"rizona." Coach Rodriguez' first priority was to be in and win the Davonte Neal commitment.

I have watched this recruitment of Davonte Neal throughout his Junior year in high school. It has been my position throughout the Neal recruitment process."How would we get it done here at "A:rizona ?"

  • I think the NCAA should not accept any High School kid who announces his decision at a press conference. What a load of crap - you're going to college - hooray! Most kids don't need to have press conference to tell the world. Recruiting is ridiculous, made more so by antics like these. I hope didn't chose AZ - this kid is going to be a head case.

So they made a decision a week or so ago? What possible good does it do to withhold it? Oh thats right - it draws undue attention to off field matters.

Didn't Teddy Bruschi do this too? No?! How about Chcuk Cecil? I guess not. Maybe Chris MacAllister thought he should have had a press conference.... but he didn't. Byron Evans? Max Zendejas? Bates, Levy, Carter, Toffelmier......

Don't hate the kids, hate the fans and ESPN. If fans didn't tune in, there wouldn't be a demand for it. Btw, no one was recruiting Bruschi or Cecil. Who knows, maybe they did have one but no one was there.

I could not agree with this more.

Media has become a ubiquitous monster in our lifetimes, and people have become more emotionally invested in their teams than ever before thanks to the rise of media and coverage.

For example, we weren't on message boards doing this back in Cecil's day.

The responsibility for the hyper-coverage belongs to the fans... and sometimes they/we can go over the top (thinking of the Bama fan tree poisoner). But you can guarantee that ESPN, FSN, and even this website wouldn't exist if there wasn't demand.

Highly recruited players likely get blitzed with requests for info, comments, and interviews... when that happens why not have a presser and address everyone at once? I think it's less an ego thing and more a practical thing.

  • I think most High Schools do a press conference on LOI day. They set up a table in the gym and let all the kids that are lucky enough to sign a LOI to do so in front of there peers and the media that is there. It is a special day for them and lets them have their day in the sun with friends and family. Yes some go to the extreme but we as fans and the media have put them in the spot to make them think they are better then everyone else. So if winey had his way recruiting should be hush hush and no one should know what is going on until the letter is signed.

Actually most kids announce during a conference of some sort. Whether its football players, softball players, or any other type of athlete. It doesn't matter if they are high profile athletes or what university they are goin to, it's about acknowledging an incredible accomplishment. The high schools are actually hosting these signing day conferences.
