Good luck Zona fans....

  • Let me share a cpl things with Zona fan's...Dick Fraud's EGO is as big as your state and he will never be satisfied with staying at Arizona for long trust me..If he left his alma mater and hometown school and state how long do you think he will stay at Arizona...As for Casteel, you are very lucky..Stand up guy, hard worker and one hell of a DC, remember he is 3-0 in BCS bowls and definatley one the most underated DC's in DIV-1 football..one hell of a catch. however he wants to be a HC so dont look for him to be staying long.! and as for the 2 other Asst. great guys and coaches. So you basically have the coaching staff from the good ol' day's of WVU football when we were winning 9-10-11 games and winning the Big East and scoring 30-60 points a game and almost one National Campionship, The big question is how long will it last..? Good luck Zona fan's...

One more thought, I've been to the area a few times and have always enjoyed the people and atmosphere of WV.

Didn't take you long to follow the guys out from West By Gawd Virginia to the Wild Wild Wild West.
We got it, West By Gawd Virginia has some issues losing it's Home-grown Coaches and their success.
But please do not bring that toxic language to the community..."Dick Fraud?" From all that I have seen and read about Coach Rodriguez' tenure at your school was an aspiring success.Where is the the Fraud in that?
Coach RR put in his system, put West By Gawd Virginia on the College Football map and left there in pursuit of the American Dream.
Dayum he was more popular than your Govenor. He will have one heck of a time overshadowing Arizona's' Gov.Brewer, she's made it to SNL. Coach "Rich" Rod could have run a successful Political campaign in your state. And By Gawd you probably would have voted for him and his State cabinet.(Casteel,Dewes,"K",Smith,Gibson and the others.) Oh Hell with it, the gang's all here.
So in the future spare us the "DikRod",the "RailRoad",and The "Dick Frauds." He's Coach Rodriguez,Arizona Football's HC,period.
How long will this staff stay at Arizona? Let's just say,as long as money is green and the skies stay blue.
BTW you can keep your Luck,we've got Byrne holyholyholyholy

  • Ha, ha, I wondered how long it would take for bitter WVU fan to poke his head out of the ground. Here is the thing, Dick or Rich Rod would still be your coach if your AD had one ounce of vision and forethought. Rich Rod wanted better Academic facilities for his players and more money for his assistants. But, unfortunately you live in part of the country where the concept of innovation and change is "somethum, them there city folks do." Also, its not normal for the crook Governor and other minor officials to put there face into the business of the athletic department. If Rich leaves in three years it means he left the program better than he found it, and now, we in Pac 12 have the financial stability to go out and get another big name coach with our mega TV Dollars.

Now WVU Fan, I'm going to give you something to be really bitter about. I hope you have enjoyed your stay in the watered down big east conference. Its been a joke since Miami, VT, and BC left. So now you once again play in big boy conference. Good luck beating Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas in the same year. Good luck competing dollar for dollar with the stupid longhorn Network.

  • Amen!!
    Great post Taz.
Its amazing how the WVU fans forget who got them on the
College Football map as you noted..... Coach Rich Rodriquez thats who!!

The WVU fans just can't understand why their own would want to go somewhere
else and even refer to Tucson as a cestpool. That being said by people who have
never been to Arizona or Tucson. Hows the weather in December, January and February
all you West Virginians?????? Pretty dreary and cold from what I have heard.
Coach Casteel got tired of being looked over for the Head Coaching position at WVU.

From what I understand, it wasn't a hard decision for him to leave WVU!!

brettheer - Welcome to the board.

I don't think we need to get into stereotypes but I can tell you that WV and AZ are abut as polar opposite as can be in 1 respect. 'Native' Arizonans are tiny % of the population - almost everyone here (or their parents) came from somewhere else. That opens a world of possibilities and experiences but it also makes us very envious of states like WV where community and being from there matters.

I find that admirable and while few here will likely admit it, they are jealous. We would love to have the pride WV has and we will someday, but for now us transplanted Iowans, Coloradans, Michiganites etc.... will all have our eyes peeled on our parents home teams and our AZ teams.

If what I read in Bacon's Three and Out is true, your beef is not with RR's ego, it's with your former University president (now discredited), AD and (disgraced) Governor (do you guys have a board of regents?). When Alumni donate money for the things RR was asking for (not a penny for himself) and the administration takes it and spends it elsewhere - why would anyone stay and work for those types of bosses?

And, I'm not saying this to be disparaging, but look beyond the really weirdly shaped border lines you have in West Virginia and see that the coaching is a fluid profession. You may be close geographically to Penn State but that's not normal. I bet the average coaching tenure nationwide is probably 5-6 years. The high profile winners aren't going to change coaches that often, but look at the bottom 2/3rds of any league and you don't see very many ten year had coaches. Homegrown means very little, winning is everything.

I agree with you. A couple of nice seasons and he's outta here. But that's life. If you think Holgerson will stay forever, that's just as unlikely.

Wineknow, does not speak for every one here. There is nothing wrong with a little arbitrary friction among fan basis, and cities. College Football is regional and therefore lends itself well to rivalry and dispute. I would be glad to fight it out on this board with any WVU fan and then share a beer if we ever hook up in a bowl game.

Also, Don't speak for me when you say people are envious of the culture of West Virginia. Personally, I find small town America rather horrifying. There is nothing to do but go to church and get involved in other peoples business. Maybe its because I live for part of the year in Tucson and the other time overseas but I've never understood the whole country living thing. The worth of a community is not based on the length of time or the number of generations people have been there, its based on the lifestyle of the community and the cultural aspects that make that community unique.

  • ooooookayyyyy. And that, ladies and gentlemen, summarizes the typical WVU fans' feelings toward Coach Rodriguez and the exodus of WVU and Pitt coaches to the University of Arizona. Extreme bitterness and feelings of betrayal towards Rodriguez for having the audacity to leave WVU, even though it was four years ago. Confusion why Casteel would leave the great WVU for the cesspool desert, a "lateral move at best", when he really wants to be a head coach. And finally, their prediction that everybody will leave Arizona in 2 to 3 years. All of this while communicating in some form of hard to follow grammar, part texting, and the obvious need for a spellchecker. Thanks for enlightening us......buh bye.no

For the record I was not endeavoring to speak for everyone...

You do make an interesting point and what we likely can agree upon is that the criteria for what makes a place great is subjective and that different people find different attributes appealing. There are values and work ethics and standards in small communities that generally elude more urban areas. Having said that, I personally share your disdain for the country life, it is not for me either, but I do respect it.

My (poorly made) point about jealousy was less about culture and more about how it effects the football program. WVU supporters are very passionate and it stems, in part, from having a deep pride in their state. I know too many transitory minded Arizonan's and the pride we have in our program is less related to the pride we have in our communities, from my observations. I don't cheer for Arizona because it's in Tucson or Arizona and I don't follow NAU or Grand Canyon or Pima or anyone else because they are in the state and I am just so proud of the state of Arizona that I blindly cheer for anyone. I am proud of the state but not like most West Virginians are proud of their state. I follow Arizona because that's where I went to school. If some bizarre idea came up to to move the school to the Ilsand of Fiji, I'd be the same fan I am now.
