In-State Recruits

  • I wish the Cats would have been more successful bringing in the top recruits from Arizona to visit such as Davonte Neal, Andrus Peat and DJ Foster. I am especially surprised about Neal considering UofA added his high school football coach to their staff. Sounds like Neal is highly considering ASU. RichRod should have better success next year once his staff is able to focus on the metropolitan Phoenix area. What are your thoughts on the subject?

    RobfromAZ

  • One of the first things Rodriguez did when he arrived is contact his coaching ties in the Phoenix market. He may be able to pull off something this season, but my guess is future years it'll be tough for top Phoenix prospects to leave the state.

BTW, welcome to our site. Your posts have been a nice contribution to the discussions so far.

  • I concur with you Gary although I have been holding out hope that we would get Neal to visit. I figured that was part of the reason RichRod hired his high school coach in the first place.

Thanks, I really enjoy the Wildcats Sport Report and follow UofA football and basketball on a daily basis. I am a die-hard Cats fan.

Where did you hear Neal is highly considering ASU?

That's so far from the truth,Neal has NO love for the Little Forkers. And IF reports are accurate that they hired Scottsdale Saguaro's Former coach. There is NO WAY in Goodyear Neal becomes a Little Forker.

With Coach Ragles on the "A"rizona staff, there is a strong possibility that the Wildcats land a number of Thunderbirds this recruiting cycle.

Everybody watched Carey spurn the Little Forkers last recruiting cycle, Watch for Neal to do the same.
Davonte is a solid representative of "A"rizona Talent holyholyholy

  • Don't think we are getting in on Neal. Looks like ND or OSU are leading. The Buckeyes think Neal's family ties to Ohio will help Urban land him. His latest list of visits does not include the Cats. I'm holding out hope because of your prediction, Taz, but I think we are on the outside looking in for now. We do still have time though, because he has said he is waiting until after signing day.

  • The Arizona Republic indicated in an article last week the following information about Davonte Neal:

Luke Neal, father of highly recruited receiver/cornerback Davonte' Neal of Scottsdale Chaparral, is starting to set the recruiting chains in motion with Arizona State.

A meeting with ASU offensive coordinator Mike Norvell has been scheduled for Monday at Luke's Scottsdale gym. If that goes well, he said he will have his son meet with ASU, and then go from there. But it all hinges on whether former Scottsdale Saguaro coach John Sanders is hired at ASU.

If Sanders comes on board in some capacity at ASU, Luke Neal said that his son will stop considering going there, because of remarks Sanders made last year when Neal was awarded the Gatorade Arizona Football Player of the Year over then Saguaro quarterback Teddy Ruben.

It appears Neal is giving more consideration to ASU than the UofA.

  • I was basing my information on the article from the Arizona Republic mentioned above. Neal is considering ASU over UofA right now from what I can tell although I think he will go out of state.

  • It's funny about the high school coaches getting hired and hearing recruits so they won't go somewhere if so and so coach is hired. This is the exact reason why college basketball made the rule about hiring HS coaches and there now being a 2-year hiatus of players from the coach's former high school (or AAU team) accepting a scholarship to the college where the coach was hired.

My guess is football will soon adopt a similar rule.

The Plan"A"rizona is to land the highest rated athletes in the State. This is a litmus for this incoming staff.
I believe Coach Rodriquez is following a recipe that is tried and tested. So WHEN NEAL chooses "A"rizona don't be surprised, the foundation has been Cast in Steel.
Luke will obey the force and spurn the Darkside... Those Little Forkers holyholyholyholy

  • I certainly hope Neal chooses to attend Arizona. He is a great high school player.

    RobfromAZ

  • Neal probably does wind up at OSU. Arizona went for Neal but OSU is the likely winner for him.

Neal has interest in both AZ schools, but he won't go to either one, not this year.

  • The Cats never really had a chance with Peat. The new staff did go after Foster, but so far those advances have not warranted much interest back from Foster.

As for Neal, he will give the Cats a look and at least listen to what they say. I too believe he winds up at Ohio State if they show him some real love. If he does go to an in-state school, I think he'd go to Arizona over ASU.

  • I look forward to next year when RichRod has year to recruit the in-state stars and more so with out-of-state recruits. Hopefully, Neal gives UofA a chance because they are going to be good in the near future. The future looks bright with the new coaching staff.

    RobfromAZ

  • Is OSU or for that matter U ofA recruiting him as a cornerback, TB, WR or return guy? Could his position that each school is recruiting him influence his decision on where he chooses? (such as the Fuller situation between qb and DB)

  • One small tidbit that may come into play with Neal. If he does wait until March to sign like his dad is saying, the Buckeyes may very well not have any room for him. They are very close to the limit already, what with their limit being only 82 now for being cheating S.O.B.s

There are some hidden factors that may actually come onto play. The first is,Can we take the father at his word? He has privately said ,how he would love to keep his son close to his "A"rizona home." That would eliminate the "Blackeyes" without question
    .
The second factor as you stated is by extending the process,he could find himself on the outside of the recruiting window as recruiting classes are filled by prospective schools.

And my last factor is the bunch formation.Cozens,Ippolitto and Neal are my choice for the new "Three Amigos." On Signing Day when the Valley prospects overwhelmingly choose "A"rizona . Neal will make his splash down shortly afterwards.

When Coach Rodriguez was recruiting "A"rizona athlete's from far off ,he made it clear about how he felt about its talent. Now he can keep them home to prove his point. holyholyholyholy

This is going to be a Plan "A"rizona shocker when Signing Day is completed. The In-House is the Final Push to any recruitment. My take on the Neal Camp is to fully enjoy the Process. I have said this before,Neal will be in the Cardinal and Blue. And he will be the center piece of this recruiting class.

Meeting with the Little Forkers is a courtesy visit.. The "A"rizona visit is a formalityholyholyholyholy

  • I enjoy seeing the confidence you have in UofA signing Davonte Neal. Hope you prediction come true. He can play wide receiver and return kick-offs for the Cats. The kid has speed and was returning kick-offs in one of the All-American high schools games on ESPN a couple of weeks ago. He appears to have stars in his eyes and wants to go to a big-time school. RichRod is a big-time coach so he is without a doubt a major possibility for us.

I'm just here looking at what you guys think about Neal, but then is saw this... I'm sorry at WVU he was a big time coach, but then he went to Michigan. What he did at Michigan removes the BTC title from consideration. This comment in a Buckeye's fans opinion is laughable. FWIW, everyone thinks they have a shot at this kid, We now think he's a long-shot, especially if he doesn't commit tomorrow.

What he did at Michigan? How many titles will Urban Meyer have in the next 3 years at tOSU? 3 years is an awfully short time to give a coach, especially one installing a completely different offensive system.

I have all the respect in the world for the Buckeyes, but I'm just trying to make a point. Obviously Meyer is the biggest name coaching hire of the year, but most (including ESPN) think that Rodriguez was a pretty big hire amongst all the hirings this year. He still is a pretty recognizably "big-time" coach, regardless of whether or not you like him.

"A Blackeyed fan" has an opinion ? That is laughable.Three words for you...Coach JIM TRESSEL
We have bigger snakes than you trolling our backyards in "A"rizona.

Now are you speaking as a "Blackeyed fan"when you (tOSU) see Neal as a long-shot? Tread lightly Slip,lippert7..Cue Whiney in 3-2-!...

I'm taking Coach Rodriguez as the Dark-Horse Favorite Feb.11. holyholyholyholy

By long-shot I mean that unless he commits on Urban's home visit, I very seriously doubt he will come to tOSU. (long-shot) Before today, It was down between Ark, ND, and us. After tomorrow, it will be Zona, Asu, and most likely Ark. We will most likely be out of the picture. (personal opinion) (as a buckeyes fan, I'd like to think we are in on every good recruit cool) See, Personal Opinion is way more rational than blind love for my team.

I promise I wasn't trolling, I just wanted to see your guys opinion.

What's wrong with Sweater Vest other than the lies to the NCAA. Yes, He is a lier, but he had success. Oh yeah Tressel won a NC in his second year I believe. Wow, that sounds like something Penn State would say.

Rich Rod didn't have a broken program when he took over. He didn't show serious improvement and that's what killed him. Most BTC can show serious improvements within the third year, whether or not he is installing a new system or not. (Fred Flinstone)

I like to also say that even though I'm a Buckeye fan, I have liked 'Zone since I were little.
