  • I humbly predict 44-38 Cats. I think Foles starts and Scott gets a series or two and the Cats show a lot of balance and run for 200, throw for 300 and force Luck into 2-3 key turnovers.

There will be a return for TD in this game too I think. Either Stanford KO or Cobb on a KO.

  • I will reluctantly go with Stanford prevailing 34-31 cry

Needless to say, this would be one of those times where I am PRAYING that I am wrong :-)

    BS, Chris :-)

Just making a prediction with my head, instead of my heart.

I am just as "attached" to this team as I have ever been.

But, my head tells me that the team that lost against Oregon St. at home, is just as likely to lose to Stanford on the road.

They have to prove that they can beat a good team, with a good passing attack, and that is something that they have yet to prove. If they can pull this off, on Saturday, then my faith in them will be restored. But, until they restore that faith, I am going to remain a "doubting Thomas" about our ability to beat a team like Stanford, Oregon St., or Oregon. AND, I would pick us to lose to SC, too, were it not for the fact that they have a pathetic defense, and we will carve them up worse than they will carve us up. But, SC's offense is every bit as good as those other teams that I just referenced, and we haven't proven that we can stop a team of that caliber.

Heck, even Iowa hung 27 on us, and they aren't near the team, offensively, that the teams above are.

I have ZERO confidence in our ability to hold any of those teams below 30 points, so that means that we are going to have to score AT LEAST 30 points in every one of those games.

Are we capable of doing that? For sure. But, will we do it in EACH of those games? That remains to be seen. We couldn't do it against Oregon St., and that is why we lost.

Playing Stanford in Palo Alto is going to be even more difficult than playing Oregon St., in Tucson.

I like the optimism that some have here, but I don't share it :-)

P.S. I'll also add that the reason we don't score over 30 points on a more consistent basis, is because we have not been as disciplined of a team as some of our opponents.

I mentioned in another post that one of the reasons that Stanford offsets our superior athleticism is due to their more consistent effort and discipline. We have a tendency to shoot ourselves in the foot a lot more than most of the other contending teams do.

With our personnel on offense, scoring 30 points should be a given, and we should be North of 40 more often than not.

That hasn't been the case yet, either.

  • I will be one to follow my heart (ever hear that saying?) and i WILL pick the Cats to win, 44-35.

If Im wrong, so be it, at least Im not facing the death penalty or anything like that should i be wrong. However, unless its against ORE, i cant bring myself to pick our opposition to beat us NO MATTER WHAT. Even with our game against the ducks looming, I will probably still pick AZ to win that one.

I have said before that I think they will go 2-2 down the stretch, but I wont pick against them in the next 4 weeks no matter what even if it costs me points and my chance to see what the deal is about Frankie's South Philly Cheesesteaks (my motivation hahahah jk).

Its the homer in me, sue me. peace

  • Tewa,

I also have us going 2-2, down the stretch cheers

  • I believe aRizona will prevail 35-31, but this will be a tough one.

I still see us with a chance to win out but it will be tough.

  • Typically when most people are predicting offensive shows a defensive show breaks out. As I said in a post on another thread started by Wineknow I believe that Stanford is over rated and has not played a team likes ours yet this season.

I will also add that I am hoping that this is one of the four games or so Mike Stoops thinks his team can be totally focused for (this per an article a few weeks ago which was discussed in length).

Critically important is discipline as KattzLover said, and I have a certain feeling that being on the road will give us greater focus and we will have less penalties. As for a big game on the road, I tend to think many of us still carry scars from the Penn State and Louisiana State fiascos. And I think we are about to shed one of these last burdens that we have carried for more than a few years now........

I believe Arizona will actually win this game going away.

The keys are discipline, a healthy Nick Foles, some running plays to keep Stanford off balance, and a bona fide Arizona defense that proves its speed can effectively chop the Tree down.

  • I have had a few deep gulps of the Kool Aid no doubt about it..........but there are more than a couple of things that allow me to feel pretty good about our chances on Saturday.

Nick Foles had a field day against Stanford last year. He ate them up alive.

Also, when Stanford has faced 'fast' teams this year, they have had problems on defense.

While Stanford is better than last year, so are we. We have had 'strange' games against the Tree for three seasons in a row and it only seems logical to me that we actually see a more 'standard' game develop.

Even though it is a road game, the Palo Alto crowd is not exactly the Penn State or LSU riots. Not to say it will be a picnic but our guys are not going to be shaking with fear when they walk out on to the field.

Lastly, coaches cannot play the 'respect' card too much or it loses its value, but it seems to me that both of our teams have identical records and we have beaten Iowa outside of conference, while Stanford has faced Notre Dame and mighty Wake Forest - thus a nine point underdog role should certainly rub our guys the wrong way and leave them with a resolute desire to go out and kick some ass.

And that is exactly what I think we are going to see. Its about time to really become a top tier program, if we go into their house and do it we will have yet another strong stone to build on.

    wato

  • Im betting the 9 point spread for sure...and I think we win

    Pass the Kool-Aidcoffee
Can I buy it at Wal_mart....LOL

    Mrzipityduda

  • You can get the Kool Aid at Wal Mart, just avoid anything with Jamestown references, Jim Jones or ASU anywhere on the label. Should be safe to avoid in that case.

  • I will have to agree with our Israeli friend.

Stanford is at home, big deal, no real advantage.

They don't have a punishing number one draft pick at running back anymore.

Is Luck better than Foles? Hmmmmm, I wonder. . . A Stanford QB is always going to get more hype.

Our D hasn't been bad, but I think it's time for a breakout game.

Who has Stanford prepared for this week? Foles? Scott?

Is Stanford faster, quicker than us? Nope. Are they bigger? Maybe on the offensive line, but I think we can contain Luck with an ocassional blitz, and with our two stellar ends.

If you are Mike Stoops, you have to be livid over the loss two years ago, and last year.

Every pundit is picking Stanford. Everyone. Why? This group think stuff comes from the name Stanford. Nothing more.

Arizona in a surprisingly easy walk: 42-10

    BlkMtn

  • Nick Foles > Andrew Luck.

    May he prove that today!hoops!!

    KattzLover

  • I'm with Katzlover...my head says we won't win. I will be elated if we do.

I agree that it will be a hard fought game - close for at least 3 quarters and that, like many have said, it will turn on a key fumble, blocked punt, critical call...I also think that Stanford will pull away in the fourth qtr.

    1. Mike Stoops can make some bizzarre mistakes and that has plagued us for 7 years in big games
    2. Penalties, we have way too many this year, in close games that kills
    3. Foles COULD be and likely will be rusty and if he is, no chance we beat them.
    4. we are on the road against a charmed team, almost every bounce has gone their way this year.

IF we win it will be because Foles has a great day, we have luck on our side, we have very few penalties and Stoops and staff make solid decisions... when was the last time that happened against a top 10 team? A: Iowa, so there is great hope, but thats 1 of three recent challenges (OSU and Nebraska) and I just do not have any confidence in the team against quality opponents. But I do have hope.

    Stanford 27, Cats 17
