Osweiller vs. Foles

  • Mel Kiper has Osweiller ranked ahead of Foles?

    Strange.

  • The broncos are now dead to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A testament (no AZ yet at this writing) to how many appologists and kool-aid drinkers there have been leading up to Mike Stoops' firing.

I'm starting to believe that Rich Rod may have inherited an mess.

ppss, Wow...Foles just got picked by the Eagles.

The Eagles are going to win the Super Bowl this year under Foles!!!!!

  • Dang.

My favorite person to talk sports trash with is a hardcore Philly fan.

Now I have to pull for his team! banghead

Foles will show the NFL just how misjudged he was in the draft rankings in two or three years. I mean, he is going to compete against Kafka for the backup spot? Advantage....Foles.

  • "Interesting pick. Foles, who transferred from Michigan State, immediately steps into the mix with Mike Kafka and Trent Edwards to win the backup job behind Michael Vick. With Foles, though, the long-term possibilities are more important. Can he be a franchise quarterback? Is he the kind of player who is in the right place at the right time, with a coaching staff that maximizes quarterbacks' abilities? Is Foles more of a Ben Rothlisberger kind of quarterback than a nimble-footed thrower who can get outside the pocket and make throws? Andy Reid doesn't believe that. He spent his time on Foles. He studied him intently."

"And all of those critics suggesting Foles has mechanical issues? Reid shrugged them off, instead praising Foles' accuracy and his athletic ability and the kind of upside Foles has."

  • This is how I see the QB class panning out first Andrew Luck will be a player he is like Cam Newton physically but ahead of him when it comes to understanding offenses. Griffen will be a flop along with Tanenhill because there has not been a Big 12 QB that really has made a difference Bradford the jury is still out on. I see oswieler as being a gigantic risk he was not able until this last year to assert himself as the starter so he is either Tom Brady or he is really not good. Foods I really thought was going in the third or fourth round to Denver but that was wrong Foods I feel is a QB like Dilfer and Brad Johnson he will not lose you games but he is not going to have those plays that blow people away like Rodgers and Manning because he does not take those risks. He will have his oppurtunity because they drafted him high enough he will more than likely be on the roster and Buck.will get hurt this year and everybody knows that.

I assume by "Foods" you mean Foles. Damned auto-correct.
I am humble enough to announce that in 2009 I called Andrew Luck being the 1st pick in the NFL Draft some day. It seemed pretty obvious at the time, and even more logical after I've seen him play 4 times in person. He's a very impressive quarterback, and easily the best I've seen at the college level.
It's not hard to see why Osweiler was drafted ahead of Nick Foles. Foles may have a slightly stronger arm and more throws under his belt, but Osweiler is more mobile and still has a pretty good arm.
I thought Osweiler was going to go in the 4th round, and Foles in the 5th. Both guys ended up in good spots, however. I like the comparison of Foles to Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer. Guys who would've been pitchers in another life. We'll see how Foles does, and I'm sure we'll all be following it.

  • I was looking at a variety of NFL draft prediction lists and it seemed like everyone had Osweiller going late second and Foles early third. The good news is Foles is just one dog abuse ring scandal from being the starter. Give it a year.

  • I don't see Vick playing much longer....2 maybe 3 more years. It is perfect timing for Foles...I wish him the best.

  • Interesting. As osweiner is one step away from an injury of PM.....then just watch Elway fall apart. I thnk that Foles and Ostweiner have agood scene with both teams

I thought Luck was as good as he was his second year without Gerhart and he was the focal point and crushed everybody. I knew Foods was going to after osweiller but I was thinking the Broncos were going to get him in about the fourth round thought late enough that it would make sense for a backup. I like Phillie I am just hoping he takes the bs. Espn guys have said and work his ass off.

  • Criner is a Raider. Round 5 pick 33.

Was really hoping he would fall to my Cards.

  • Wineknow, I was in my man cave last night watching through the second round and was depressed that NO Wildcat's name had been called while the draft was gainfully into the third round. Honestly, as I sent the comment Nick Foles' name emerged.

Leading into Thursday, it really looked like Foles had a chance at the Eagles. Their pick of Foles was actually the Eagles' 4th. I was getting concerned as the Eagles' second pick in the second round had no Foles.

As it is, Foles was seven picks away from the fourth round. Criner, the second best player offering to the NFL this year gets picked 3 spots short of the SIXTH round.

After all the lauds and accolades of Wildcat football player stock, that's how good the Arizona Wildcats' lot of seniors were this year.

Here's an item from the Philadelphia Inquirer that buttresses some opinions above who believe Michael Vick may be a short timer:

Yeah...I almost posted the "Philly" link earlier.

It's hard to get a read on the Philly fans but I would say 40/60 believe that Foles can bring value to the table in year one or two...or three. My born-and-bred Philidelphia "friend" and I now have a running bet....that Foles will be the backup by the end of the season and that he (the friend) will be eating his words that Foles is "soft and weak" by year three as a starter. Premier choice of soda pops (you all get the picture) is on the line for both selections.

You were correct, Jerry, that Foles has an outside chance of being in a position to bring his team to the SB. Vick is a head-case, in more ways than one, and if Kafka and Edwards are both out-produced by Foles...

That leaves Foles to lead a team that many believe have the player pieces for a SB run. Just like last year....

  • It's just my gut instinct.

I say Foles may end up being the steal of the draft. He will definitely by better -- by far -- than Osweiller, who will be out of the league in a couple of years.

Foles is eager, intent on learning, has a great team attitude, and Andy Reid will end up looking like a genius.

The only possible problem Foles has is that he has no team mentor at all in Philly.

He was set up perfect to under study under Manning in Denver, but now I have another reason to hate Elway.

The first was his trashing of the Colts when he was drafted, making him basically one of the ONLY players to force a trade of draft picks, by stating that he would not report to the Colts if drafted. The Colts ended up with a disgruntled guard, Chris Hinton. But Elway may have also been trashing the Ersay who as an owner was a disaster.

    BlkMtn

  • Really think he will have the same support as in Denver Manning really is not into helping his backups look at last year without him. I think I could gave completed more passed than the guys under Manning for years now.

Oh... I thought it was a given that were are essentially bereft of NFL level talent.

All the hoopla about our incredibly amazing offensive line and I wonder if anyone writing that junk saw one single play from last year. Anea is the greatest all-evertything coach ever and we've got 10 future NFL Hall of Famers according to most people around here, but we can't run or protect the passer, so maybe they are just really good on FG's... oh wait they weren't good at that either.... I just don't get it but then again I am not disspaointed on draft day when our best players are taken late and 98% aren't taken at all.

Defensive backs are the strength of the team - but 1/2 the QB's we played set career passing records against us and we ranked 8th in the PAC-12 in pass defense.

Our receivers were also amazing... led by a guy who is late 5th round amazing.... to be fair, he sure seems like he's better than that, but he's not going to be an all-star or anything.

I could go on and on....
