Scott's competitive nature

Will something that happened two years ago serve as motivation for Arizona quarterback Matt Scott this season? It just might.

  • Thanks Gary,
    Great read!!

  • Love the sound of that

  • Gary, you did what other media member should have done. You probably boosted Scott immensely that day just by letting him know you saw his contribution.
He's a terrific young guy; smart, fast, good athlete with a good arm, and Coach Scelfo really helped him. I think he will have a very good year, surprising to some, but if he stays upright and dodges the headhunters as I hope, he can get ~700 yards rushing and ~2300 passing. A 3-grand year is a good year.

  • Gary start sending your stuff to ESPN and SI - just promise that when they hire you, you'll continue to write on this board

  • Good stuff Gary. No doubt he'll be (or should be) playing with a huge chip on his shoulder this season.

Time to nut up or shut up

  • Good article and nice scoop.

It's good to see Scott as confident, and although RR was kidding, he was probably correct.

  • Gary great read my brother. I love the way Scott has matured. Listening to him talk he has a certain swagger about him. The things you want to see in a confident qb or at least a top tier qb. I am looking forward to him showcasing his tallents very soon. I'm ready for some football baby!!

  • I'm glad I make a habit of saving my recorded interviews on an external drive. I'll never forget that day, watching a haze come over Scott's eyes when he was being peppered with the Foles stuff.

I'm working to try and get an interview, but the formal process isn't always so smooth as the player schedules are very demanding, and also unpredictable this time of year.

  • That was a great day, and in fact, the only game I've ever attended with you, Gary. We'll do it again this year, and hopefully with a repeat of Scott answering your questions about his stellar performance!

    God Hates Arizona Football.

That's right. I would have preferred being in the stands with you guys and drinking during the pre-game tailgate but, on the other hand, there's nothing better than watching a game from the sidelines and press box.

  • Remember that day well. I recall Scott playing through a hand injury; think he hit his hand on a helmet. Jake had a big day as well with a nice run from punt formation and as for Scott, he showed glimpses of pure domination. I often wondered that day watching Keola, Grigs and Scott, what he would do in the Read/option. Guess I'm about to find out.

  • Agreed. The final score was 29-21. Arizona dominated, but it got close. The game sort of changed when Scott under threw a timing pattern in the end zone that was intercepted. Had Arizona punched one in there the Cats might have won by 30. I remember after the game Stoops telling the media that Scott misread the defense and through directly into the coverage when he thought he'd have a wide open receiver. Stoops attributed that throwing error to not seeing enough live defense as a QB (at that time).

With 100% preparation as the starter in terms of reps, film study and the coaches focusing on developing Scott, I expect him to make the right decisions and play very well this season.

  • You should have asked him;

Would you characterize all of these guys asking about Foles as 'Clueless', 'Oblivious' or full out 'Douche Bags'?
