So did anybody hear Herbstreit and Millen today?

  • I haven't seen or heard it but understand that Herbie pretty much dumped on us; kind of a sympathy dump for his friend Stoops. As I understand it, the discussion was about how Mike was probably relieved after he talked to him last night, that we had terrible facilities and a horrible gameday environment (interesting how that changed from his 09 visit) and that we had no crowds at our games. I was told he didn't mention that the crowds were usually gone after Stoops' team was 30 or so points behind at the half. Millen supposedly said something about not bringing in recruits to visit because gameday was so bad but didn't mention that it was Stoops' idea. So that tells me we have a disgruntled terminated ex-employee on our hands who will likely be badmouthing us; says something to me about the "class" stuff that was said about him. BTW, on another board it has been reported that Kish & Walters both signed off on having Adam Hall redshirt this year but he was challenged by Stoops before the OSU game as to what kind of teammate he was? So he played.

Wow... if Adam Hall was pressured into burning his red-shirt in a last ditch attempt by Stoops to keep his job.... Holy Smokes! I REALLY hope that didn't happen. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

Ricky, I really respect your vast knowledge and keen insight.... but what purpose does any of this serve?

    1. NO redshirt can be pulled without the student agreeing.

    2. It's way too easy to scapegoat someone and frankly not one thing in Stoops entire history here indicates that he would stand alone against his staff and force a kid to come back and lose a season of eligibility... " search your feelings Luke, you know this to be true"

    3. I trust your sources, but doubt seriously that Herbstreet was that one sided. He is always a balanced and gracious commentator. getting information second or third hand is just asking for there to be omissions and misunderstood points. Again - that's just not who Kirk is. I have no doubt he may have taken a side and frankly most anything he could say about Arizona was probably true when Mike got here.

  • There is no question that Adam Hall felt compelled to come back for Mike, no doubt at all. Mike should not have had Adam play unless Adam was ready and Adam said he was ready. I would not have played him but that is me. Hall had a hell of a game and if he continues to play this season rather than try for a medical then great.

I think Herbie went a little far. The gameday atmosphere here is very good (I have tailgated on riverboats outside Neyland, been to Athens, Georgia, Tuscaloosa, Alabama and a few other places. While not that caliber, it is surely one of the best on the west coast for sure. Herbie is defending Mike, I don't think a ton of that was from Mike himself though.

  • I'm one who actually thinks Arizona's game day activities are crap. Granted, not totally crappy but by comparison to the many college campuses I've visited on football Saturday's pretty crappy.

For starters, the 5-hour thing is pure horsesh*t. You're not tailgating if you're not already settled in and drinking 7-8 hours before the game, at least in big boy football. Second, when I was at Arizona in the 1990's and the Greek System was actually alive and well, once you crossed Speedway, Broadway or Campbell, you knew you were at a football game. The entire campus was abuzz. Every fraternity was hosting parties with neighboring sororities. You could walk on campus and get five beers handed to you from five different tailgates.

Today, there's too many rules, but that's just my opinion.

  • I just watched College Football Live and as much as I usually like Herbstriet, he did totally dump on us. I was very surprised.

He mentioned that people in Tucson care about basketball, they don/t care about football. He said any prospective coach should ask "what's the plan". He doesn't think we spend enough money to be competitive, that our facilities aren't competitive, and that recruits aren't excited to be playing in a half empty stadium.

I wish Greg Byrne was there to defend us. It was a really crappy discussion about our school. I can't believe Herbstreit portrayed us like that. Again, I realize that we aren't Alabama, but we aren't nearly as pathetic as Kirk made us out to be. Of course, they failed to mention the north end zone project or the new scoreboard and anything else Byrne is doing to help us compete in the college football arms race.

  • I dislike the way the national media is playing this altogether. Everyone says with a smear that we should have been happy with stoops and that we will never find someone better. The worst so far though was in our own local paper. Old Greg's article this morning was a disgrace. I don't think we need anymore proof that old greg is an enemy of the U of A and should be treated as such. Lute got that one right for sure.

  • Just watched the interview and it came off as totally transparent that Herbstreet went out of his way to bash Aruzona b/c he is friends with Stoops. The guy is officially a douche, if gameday ever comes back, I will show him how much I care about football.

A degree from Arizona gets u into graduate school, a degree from asu gets u into high school.

  • Article was a disgrace, and Herbstreit proved how ill-informed he is. As you guys just mentioned, it's okay to suggest our facilities need an upgrade, but completely biased when you degrade our facilities yet fail to acknowledge that a massive $80 million stadium project is underway, the third largest scoreboard has been installed. Further, while you're at Herbstreit, why don't you ignore Arizona's new, young, aggressive, and committed to building a winning tradition in football AD Greg Byrne. He can take one of his "Herbie" awards and shove it straight up Hansen's arse.

  • ESPN's Pat Forde and Ted Miller basically said the firing was coming. Forde specifically mentioned the 10-game FBS losing streak. When was the last time the stadium was half full for kickoff? Stoops has averaged over 50K for the whole 8 years.

Gameday is good, but nowhere near great. I've been to six of the 12 schools (LA, Zonas, Bays) and Arizona is probably third, maybe fourth of that group.

  • I don't care what the national apologists say, KH may be one, but that is media posturing. This is all total crap, Arizona has a good game day crowd but it could be better once we get a coach who knows what the &^#%$ he is doing.

I contend that the game day experience will continue to improve under Byrne's watch. He wisely introduced the Wildcat Walk, Bear Down Friday's have gotten tremendously better, etc. I do think the school could benefit by some less restrictive game day policies, but then again if the school does then all it will take is some jackass selling drugs out of the trunk of their car or worse to screw up the tailgating experience for everyone. We'll see how it goes, but I think Arizona's tailgating experience will continue to evolve.

  • This is ridiculous. I have never liked that Icabod crane looking mother f*cker Bo Pelini and now hate him even more. Why Stoops continues to be friends with that ugly arrogant piece of sh!t is beyond me after he let Landry tee-off on Tuitama.

him b!tching about loyalty is totally horsesh!t, I mean for f*ck sake Stoops started flirting with Iowa State the minute he had a winning season. IOWA STATE vs ARIZONA? WTF!? THE F*CKING CYCLONES!? Give me a God damned break.

8 years is about enough, getting rolled in his two latest bowl games with no reasonable hope to extend the streak to a 4th bowl game where we will get rolled plus the losing streak across two seasons when you have the talent we have is unacceptable.

It's great that there is a coaching fraternity...it's a tough, sometimes thankless profession BUT THEY MAKE $1+ million dollars a year when providing a paltry $30+ million in revenue. They make a lot, in part, because of the pressure and short life span. I can guarantee you that if Bob or Bo got absolutely rolled in two straight bowl games and then opened a season 1-5 they wouldn't have much job security.

The one thing Hansen did touch on that I agreed with is that Mike had very little emotional equity in this community. He never embraced our community (publicly at least, I know he did a lot of charitable work behind the scenes) or our traditions. So naturally he had very little wiggle room WHEN HE LOST TEN GODDAMNED STRAIGHT DIVISION ONE GAMES!

Had he got us to a Rose Bowl, or won even 2 of 3 bowls games it is a different story, but he didn't so d!ckhead Bo's remarks are out of bounds in my view.

  • The coaching fraternity does stick together.

May he rest in peace, but in the last days of Mack 0 Vich, Larry Smith still had his back and said he was the right man for the job. Said the criticism of him was totally unwarranted.

    BlkMtn

  • Larry did do that. He even said he and Tomey both supported Mackovic. That was on the post game radio show. I was kind of shocked because Mack's team never showed any of the fire Larry's team did.

Take your BP meds. You are scarying me. Oh right its Hollweeny time.
I wonder, if Stoopid had won the last 2 bowl games would he still be here...probably. But...he isn't and a lot of people are happy. Some are dumping on AZ and his fire....but I always say to them....what if this was your team....?? And I am refering to ucla/usc/trees and ND friends.....to the one they wouldnt put up with Stoops...PERIOD!!!!
