A look at the Wildcat recruiting class and what they still need to fill.

  • I'm probably the only one, but a kicker coming in would make me feel better.

Could the lack of defensive line and linebackers have anything to do with the type of defense played and the reluctance of top players to play this system?

  • A couple of kickers rdot. After the last couple of seasons, we need some depth there.

I get the speed thing. I just don't understand why Oregon can get 4 and 5 star guys with size and speed and we're stuck with 3 star and below with speed but no size.

  • Yeah, guys; ummm, I'd really get hung up on recruiting "stars" just like UCLA does; but then, they get no better results than we do. :))

Getting the two linebackers today helps, but we still need more, as well as DTs and OTs, and ...yes, a kicker. The "kicker" is, a good kicker doesn't just fall off the turnip truck, and as a specialized position, they are far fewer. It's like the 7-foot center.....there aren't that many compared to guards. So, the staff is quite rightly evaluating diligently. We don't want another Salazar, right?

  • We are further ahead on Football Recruiting than the Program has ever been. The Staff is getting attention and commits from targets that they are interested in.
With a year or two under their belts, this staff will be recruiting those Top Recruits and they don't need to have 5 stars by their names because many of those players are busts compared to their 'star status'. Many are sold on their status out of HS, but everyone needs to be committed to the Team, The program, and Their own Personal Development. No one is above the program no matter how many starts they got by their name. Give them a little time, the tide is turning in Arizona's favor.

  • Exactly, AZWILDCATS
I am really high on the progress this staff has made so far, so fast, in terms of building on the existing network with their own twists and innovations, while keeping all of their old network in place. It really shows that this staff is accustomed to working together as they have before, and we are now reaching in where no previous Arizona staff has ever gone.

We have 140 offers out. In previous years, that number would be 75-80 at this point of the recruiting year, and at the end, we'd be scrambling for the guys that others didn't offer. This time, we're IN on the guys we want, and will be in on some high-profile guys who can really help us..

  • What I see coming down the pike is filling out the DE needs with that kid from N.M., who recently visited for the second time; possibly a big JC defensive tackle, and a guy like Elijah Qualls or Luca Bruno who would fit as a DT in this system. We will probably add another DB or two, and another couple LBs. On offense, they have got to address the trenches and that seems to have been pretty difficult thus far. I also see one more RB, WR & QB.

  • Very happy with status of the 2013 class so far. Agree we still have a big need on the DL and LB positions. However, with all the recent additions to the QB position, I hope that we are now very picky with that position for the remainder of this class.
