Change the name of the Arena

  • Why have a name of someone that didnt even like coaching Basketball. Lets change it to someone that is deserving...Like Lute or even Enke.

Of course after Sean takes us to 4 Final 4's in a row and we wi them all we will erect a huge Miller Beer sign and call it MILLER TIME ARENA.

  • Some valid reasons 1. He coached basketball (as well as football, track and baseball ) and has the highest winning percentage in basketball in school history. 2.He was AD for about 50 years but baseball and trackwere his favorites. 3.It ahs been named that for almost forty years and makes since.

McKale was a baseball guy, Joe Pickarrd who replaced him was a football guy and a former teammateof Red Grange at illinois, Dick Clausen was a football coach and father of former UA basketball star Monte Clausen, Straack was Basketball as was Cedric Dempsey, Livengood who knows or cares and Byrne a football guy, Enke coached Golf longer than he did basketball and that wahis first love. Lute has the court named after him and Miller has not earned such status as of now.

I have lived a long time (68) and have had the privilege of meeting all the AD's listed above except Livengood

    Leave the arena name alone.

Tax Avoidance is a right . . . Tax Evasion gets you 20 to life (or more recently a Cabinet job).

Send them to me Mr. Duda, I will save you some $ and you will literally and figuratively avoid doing them. cool

So you're saying you've had the pleasure of NOT meeting Livengood?

Have to agree with all the points here, plus the entire country knows Mckale center but for all they know it's a past president of the University or wealthy benefactor....it doesn't matter.

  • McKale Center was the first major completely constructed facility of the modern era. As such, it should be named after the man who took us from frontier days into the near modern era in all sports as A.D., J. F. Pop McKale. Never had the pleasure of meeting him. Did meet Strack, Jim Livengood, Mr. Clausen and Cedric Dempsey. I appreciate that Strack hired Freddy Snowden, Jim Young and Larry Smith. Did not appreciate that he hired Tony Mason.
I appreciated that Clausen hired D. Mudra; Weber not so much. If Clausen had gotten McKale built a couple of years earlier I suspect our entire history of hoops might have been significantly different because I suspect Bruce Larson may have been able to pull off what would be considered successful years like the 17-9 he had with Rustand, Doolen, Albert, Bob Hansen and Pickett et al. Or the 17-10 with Eddie Myers, Lurch Lee, Warner and McKinney. If Bruce had continued with those level of years in McKale, I don't know if there would have been great pressure for the kind of success Fred Enke brought to Arizona basketball. In those days we were probably a baseball school. So we wouldn't have gotten Freddy, who proved for everyone of discerning powers of observation like Lute Olson that there was a sleeping giant in the Desert.

  • Casino del Sol Arena. You know that's coming.

  • One of the things that I have appreciated about my alma mater is that we haven't stooped to that level as in Wells Fargo Arena. Next we'll be downsizing to create false market demand.
Looking at the saturation of commercial messages on the big board in the stadium I fear you may be correct.

  • The King of Daleks arena has a nice ring to it.

A Rose Bowl before I die Please!!!!

  • Pop McKale deserves eternal naming rights. He was "the man" of his time, and as an Arizona sports hero, is up and beyond Button Salmon.

    No change, ever.
