Respectfully, we're asking that links from other websites be limited primarily to newspapers from across the country. 247Sports is an official content provider with CBS Sports so preferably we'd appreciate story links from cbssportsline.com over every other major online news provider, but will allow links to websites such as espn.com.
We will automatically delete posts from direct competitors such as Scout, Rivals, and other sites such as pointguardu.com.
We have nothing against any of these outlets and do recognize they provide valuable content to their subscribers, but do not see the value to WSR to provide their content on our website just like they do not see the value in linking WSR content on their message boards.
Thank you for your cooperation.

Totally understandable. I get more in depth everything here at 247sports anyways so not a problem for me. Like i try to tell everyone else, 247sports is where it's at! And to be honest, it's one of the first sites, if not the first site, I visit each day.
Time to nut up or shut up
AHHH but it is so hard to not link something from here when you guys beat them to the punch so many times...LOL

Let me add to this. We don't mind if you refer to a report on another site (as long as you don't take their premium content), please just don't provide a link. If you want to ask a questions "hey scout is reporting...what have you guys heard?" or "so and so tweeted..."
This is not an attempt to discredit anyone or dissuade you from checking out other sites, we just don't want to make this a place where they can advertise freely.

So does that include news from WhatsamattaU.com?
BEAR DOWN boys... The best is yet to come....
Anytime you need me to go piss off another board, just say the word....
"Arizona has no tradition" - Bill Walsh
"We have a tradition of kicking Bill Walsh's ass" - Teddy Bruschi
On a humorous note, I got an email from another site to sign up for their premium content. I was familiar with the site, and when I clicked on the link, found that it was a promotion from the publisher to sign up for the content, followed by what must have been several dozen posts, all, in my view written by fictious posters, genufliecting, bowing and scraping before the publisher, all wanting to have his baby.
It was such an obvious self promotion it made me laugh.
There is also the Search Engine Optimization factor.
Each time a competitor is linked on the board, the 247 site gives a vote to the competitor according to Google Page Rank.
I'm probably one of the more egregious linkers on the board due to wanting to back my statements up. I need to keep reminding myself that ESPN shouldn't be linked, but sometimes it hard to stop.
Mods, feel free to remove any link I throw in. I understand the problem.
I'm gonna miss Nogie's morning links. That was def one of the best parts of logging on to the computer each morning.

I think this conversation needed to be had though. I often wondered if SEO was a factor.
My feeling is that you can only "game the system" so much when it comes to Google Page Rank. There are a lot of other factors at play as well that would require a wineknow length essay. That is why I don't feel that bad when linking other articles.
And the ESPN conversations are too much fun. My personal thoughts is don't link the three stated above. No sense in giving them the vote.
yeah its an understandable rule. And with the stated policy to allow espn and local newspapers around the country... nogie should be pretty safe in posting his stuff. Hopefully this policy doesn't scare him away or reduce his efforts! I love his posts... it seems like he's my own personal UofA-tailored RSS reader. Haha
Just to give you an idea, I'm in a SEO competition currently (and don't think I didn't want to spam you all - lol).
My parked domain that I bought is currently in first with a specific search term. A friggen Go Daddy parked domain is beating all of us (the teams). The domain was meant to be set-up as another website to help my entry share the vote through cross-linking. That domain was disqualified and I can't use it.
It just gives you an idea that some sites have stronger votes, like Go Daddy. I think it's hilarious.

Guys, feel free to link to ESPN, the Star, SI, etc. We'd appreciate for a national story that you link to CBSSports because they are a partner of 247, but if ESPN has something interesting, feel free. Same goes for any local paper.
Nogie's links are fine, in fact, they are encouraged and one of my favorite things to read.
Agreed guys, and honestly nothing should change. None of our direct competitors link to each others sites and that's been generally understood for as many years back as I can recall. Brad's analogy was the best one I've read in that McDonald's wouldn't allow Burger King to enter their store and distribute coupons for free Whoppers.
Brad and I respect the media as a whole, including our direct competitors. This isn't personal, just business.
