Elite player lists Cats

Big time Chicago prospect listing the Wildcats, do they really have a shot?

  • At this stage of the game did anyone really think we weren't a long shot with Tarc? Who knows? I think just being in the fray pays dividends.

    rdotrbennett

  • I think we were in better shape with Tarc at this stage. He had a less fluid list at least.

  • Among the national analysts and broadcast commentators on all the services, there is no surprise to see "Arizona" listed as a top program, recruiting top talent.

Lute put us here, Sean is picking right up, and I guess it's still difficult for a lot of people, even those who love the 'Cats, to recognize that we are in the circle-- Kentucky, Arizona, Kansas, North Carolina, UCLA, Louisville....then there is another ring...Georgetown, Arkansas, Villanova UConn, and those teams, and then ....everyone else comprises the group of longshots.

Let's be honest here - we're in that second ring, not the first. KU, UK, UNC, Louisville - all consistent deep tournament runs. UConn has two NC's int he last 10 years, we have 0....

Memphis would also make the list, Florida, Tesxas, Ohio State....Duke is pretty good at recruiting, too.

Frankly, Romar is beating the heck out of us at recruiting - or atleast his recruits are beating the heck out of our recruits.

I think Miller needs a lot of consistency over a long period of time to get us back to the 1a level and not making the tournament set us back several years.

flawed logic. our recruits rate as high as the top tier, the fact that one recruiting class doesn't pan out isn't that uncommon. UNC had a bad recruiting class 3 years ago, most of whom are at UCLA now. I guess they must be below the top tier aswell with their tourney misses in the last decade and transfer and recruits that don't pan out. UK didn't make the tourney 4 years ago, they must not get the best recruits either. Memphis missed it 2 years ago, they must suck too. UCLA missed it 2 of 3 years without a coaching change, they must suck. UConn missed the tourney 3 years ago, they must suck. Duke lost to a 15 seed this year... their recruits suck(they also lost to us last year and according to you we suck)
So of all the top teams, KU is the only school to meet your top tier standard, who we are almost dead even with in terms of win/losses with in the past 25 years.

Agreed. I forget, did Washington make the NCAA Tournament this year? Oh yeah, no they didn't.

We can debate all day long about Arizona last season, but the one thing I will never give an inch on is how important team chemistry is to the success of a season and a program. Arizona had bad team chemistry last season thanks to the distractions of two players. They're both now gone and are being replaced by four quality individuals (let alone Top 5-35 national talent) and that alone will make Arizona automatically better moving forward.

  • Good post uofasteve except i think since we are almost dead even with KU, they suck too! Wow with so many bad teams, why does anyone even play the game anymore. I think i 'll go have a drink now and forget basketball.

I also agree with Gary on the team chemistry, important in the office and on the court.

  • I hear that Jabari Parker's father doesn't like to/doesn't fly, so that will undoubtedly eliminate quite a few schools that may be on his list now, that won't be later. I would be surprised if he doesn't end up at Michigan State, personally.

As far as Arizona, and the recruiting battles that we have seen under Miller's tutelage so far, well there's no question that we are pulling talent, and Miller and his staff are doing a great job. Having said that, the onus will be on him a little bit more to make the tourney, and get pretty far. Outside of the anomaly known as Derrick Williams, we haven't gotten to where all the Wildcat faithful want and expect their basketball team to be at the end of the season. I don't mean this as a slight against Miller, because I think that he is doing a great job, but he now does have a plethora of horses in the barn, so to speak. The results of recruiting will now be scrutinized into W and L's, and ultimately how far we go in the tourney. IMO, I think the Arizona coaching staff is in a good position now, feeling at home with recruiting the West Coast kids because they have been able to put in the time and develop relationships on the West Coast, and Texas. We all knew it was going to take some time for Miller and his crew to get acclimated, and we seem to be well on our way. I can't wait until we tip it, this year. Pulling Lyons this weekend would make it even more special. Exciting time to be a Wildcat fan.

So what you are saying is that when National pundits rattle off the nations elite teams, everyone puts Arizona with Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina and Duke?

I just don't think that's the case. People look at us like they look at Florida or Michigan State or Texas or on a good day for us, UConn...always have and until we win a couple more NC's, always will.

I am shocked that our recruiting class stayed committed through the season and I have to believe at least some, if not all of them regret it - they could have played for a team more likely to go to the tourney next year.

  • Yes, Arizona is in the circle with Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, Duke, UCLA and Louisville. The UConns, Georgetowns, Arkansas, Villanova-types, are in a second ring, and that's because, while they have had great years at times, they don't have the records consiistently won over time.

Arizona and Kansas, as Steve points out, are almost dead even with in terms of win/losses with in the past 25 years.

I know it's painful Wine, but Arizona is actually pretty good. Just endure.

national pundits aren't being recruited to play at AZ. High school kids are. and according to them, they are interested in AZ. The national pundits are mostly east coast biased people, from the east for the east. but when all is said, we beat those east coast team most of the time.
