Fourth in the PAC-12

  • I have no idea how Brad thinks we are a lock for the tourney by beating ASU... we still finish fourth in the PAC-12.

I assume we will beat ASU.

But Miller better be spitting fire and pissing vinegar next week preparing for the PAC-12 tourney. No PAC-12 team deserves to go this year, period. But beyond that the fourth place team DEFINITELY should not go. If I was on the committee, I'd vote for 1 PAC-12 team and thats would be the conference champion.

I think we'd better win the PAC-12 tourney. It's time to grow up now and stop making excuses about our tough season was and whatever else... there can be no excuse for losing again to Washington (it's difficult to beat a team 3 times in one season). Turner and Johnson are both supposed to be better than Wroten, it's time they started playing like it. UCLA is dog shit. They were, by far, the worst team I have ever seen beat a Wildcat team earlier this year. Comparatively, they played out of their minds at McKale. We should be able to beat them by 15, EASILY.

Oregon = pretenders. Colorado = Ultra Pretenders. Cal, we match up well, but I'm sure will be a great game. Stanford & OSU just not good enough. USC, ASU, WSU & UTAH are all just a huge joke.

We need to win the PAC-12.

  • NEver said lock, but think the chances are very good. With 68 tournament slots, a 22-10 Arizona team likely gets in. The Cats can still finish tied for second in the conf, and committee does not look at what seed Arizona would be in Pac-12 tourney, but at overall resume. Beat ASU and the Cats would be a 22-win team, with a 13-5 conference record. If you compare Cats with much of the country for the final 5-10 spots, the Cats compare favorably.

  • However, i would feel much better with at least one win in the PAC-12 Tourney. However, here is that dbl-edged sword. If we win 2 games then we will have played 3 games in a row and we will be tired from the games played. I 'd rather win of course so we look even better on paper...that would put us at 11-2 finish. Assuming we lose the Championship game...that is . the committee looks very favorible on that type of finish.. That said. if we get in and UO doesnt, there will a lot of QuackingnDucks. And I wouldnt blame them.

    I like your logic Brad.

  • I agree with Brad, I think a 22 win Arizona team gets in. There's no doubt the conference is weak this year but every year the committee rewards teams from the big conferences even in down years. I don't even think we're on the bubble and expect us to beat ASU and get a 9 or 10 seed even if we lose our first game in the conference tournament.

  • Caught this on ESPN in article about Cinci's chances...Zona is currently 68...and it will likely go down once we play ASU and depending on Pac 12 tournamnet I imagine it will be somewhere between 65-75 at the end of the season...

In the past 15 seasons, no team with an RPI of 75 or worse has qualified for the NCAA tournament as an at-large. Only seven teams with RPI numbers of 63 or above -- including one of 2011's last four teams (USC) in an expanded 68-team field -- have heard the call.

Sorry Brad, didn't mean to put words in your mouth, nor am I questioning your rationale.... but man there is just not much otehr than a record against a pitiful conference to go on....

  • It's like the year we won it all in 1997. Arizona finished something like 4th or 5th in league, but drew the No. 4 seed that had everyone pissed off and feeling cheated. Little did they know Arizona would kick everyone's ass that tournament and win it all.

EVERY SINGLE YEAR... someone has to say "its just like back in 1997, when the cats won it all!"

    Serously.

A year has yet to go by that someone doesn't utter that statement.

Turner and Johnson are not supposed to be better than wroten. As far as the pac12 goes I honestly believe uo, UA, uw, and cal pass the eye test for a tourney team. I think uw is a legit sweet 16 team. that said I think the pac only gets 3 in because of the steady drumbeat out there from the sports writers. My concern for UA is that uo goes farther in the tourney. If that happens I think UA gets left out.

    Wildcat_Brad

  • If we lose in round 1 of tourney, there simply is no way this team is deserving of a bid...lose in your tourney to a UCLA, Colorado or Stanford equivalent in an otherwise mediocre year then no way do we get or deserve a tourney bid...

Need to win at least one and possibly needing a second to be legit...

As someone posted last week, both Turner and Jhnson were higher rated prospects than Wroten. Thats what I based my statement on. But let's say they are each only 80% as good... we still have two of them.

yea, I'm gonna go ahead and say that this year was NOTHING at all like 1997 and get completely crazy and predict that the outcome of the two seasons will be vastly different!

"We played ASU twice.... just like in 1997 when we won it all!"

Comparisons to 1997 are generally right up there with:

"When this team scores 92 or more, they usually win"

  • the point of my post was to address that where you finish in your conference in the regular season is irrelevent when it comes to tournament seeding. A team can finish above Arizona in conference yet get a lower seed and that's WHAT HAPPENED in 1997. I wasn't suggesting Arizona was going to win the title this year, or suggesting that we'd get a 4 seed. Simply answering the question prior to my post about how Oregon could miss the dance and Arizona could earn an at-large bid despite finishing behind Oregon in league.

I agree with some others. Losing in the quarterfinals next week will likely knock Arizona out of the NCAA's IMO. I won't feel good unless Arizona is in the tourney title game.

  • Beating asu we would have finished the season at 9 - 1 record...they love teams that finish strong. Win 2 games in the tourney and we finish 11-2. i am assuming we lose the Final game. That is finishing strong. ! !
