  • I think his highlight tapes show only 30% of what he's about.

  • I hope he does better here thaan thelast two guyswho wore that number. Easy to know why he is not 32 as that is retired.

  • There's something special about a person that is this driven at this age. It will be fun to watch him on the national stage.

This may sound funny to some of you but Olson and especially Jim Rosborough used to talk about Josh Pastner as the most driven kid they'd ever seen. He just wasn't born with the talent and athletic ability York seems to have. It made him a good coach as a player including the time he spent with Mike Bibby as a teammate working with him on his shot. He was a positive force with the team even though he wasn't on the floor much during games.

I see an kid like York setting the kind of example that will make the whole team better. I think Miller as a kid might have had a similar work ethic.

  • I will say that York is special in so many ways. I've been doing this stuff for a long time and have seen the good, bad and ugly of high school recruiting. York doesn't fit into any of those three categories.

I'm really liking the composition of the Wildcats moving forward. T.J. McConnell is tweeting all the time that he's "off to McKale to workout" at 10:30-11 p.m., Lyons was doing Arizona drills 3,000 miles away, York's been doing NFL workouts at one of those mini-camp training centers all summer, Solo Hill and Angelo Chol have been beasts in the weight room on campus, Nick Johnson's dedicated his off season to improving his offensive skills, and the list goes on.

Add it all together and real, likely permanent change is coming to Arizona basketball that fans will begin to appreciate from its athletes on and off the court.

  • It will be fun to have a team that can truly bring it on for forty minutes without coasting. Let's hope Tarc, Jerrett, Ashley, Mayes, and Parrom are working just as hard.

  • This was not only a great story, but a great scoop for WSR fans.

Thanks Gary for the outstanding work.

Here is a pic a friend posted on Facebook! Maybe it answers your question.

  • Coach Miller posted that pic to his verified twitter account a few weeks back. Good to see the guys working so hard during the off season! There is no doubt the program is moving in the right direction.

    Thanks,

This work ethic is really encouraging. The potential for this to become the greatest team ever assembled at Arizona is certainly there. We need to play as tough schedules as we can to get this team ready for anything.

  • Ashley and Tarc are living together right now. York would like to room with Tarc in season, but that's not entirely up to him. Said he'll likely room with Jerrett for remainder of summer and off season and may end up rooming with him for the entire year.

  • This is your guy Gary. I can't wait to see him in the Arizona uniform next year.

  • I hope for Gabe's and Arizona's sake that Gabe is a smashing success. But really I hope so for Gary's sake, because he will not take it well if Gabe is anything other then a huge hit at Zona!

Nothing in life is guaranteed, but right now the odds are in Gabe's favor. He'll be hitting the road Friday for Tucson with his mom. If I know Gabe, and I think I do, he'll arrive in Tucson around 7 p.m., rush to help his mom unpack the car and will be at McKale Center with a basketball in his hands around 11 that night.

  • Quick update:

York is traveling to Tucson via train with family, leaving at 11 p.m. Friday night and not arriving until about 7:30 a.m. Saturday. He'll be officially checking into his dorm on Sunday, and doing a bunch of different things with family and the school on Saturday, mainly showing his grandparents around campus and introducing them to what will soon be his college life.

  • Train arrives at 730. 30 minutes to disembark and drive to campus. Expect Gabe to be on court no later than 830.

Sounds about right. I didn't get into specifics with Gabe and his mom because they didn't even know the entire schedule, but once on campus there's a lot of orientation stuff Gabe has to do, including getting checked into his dorm. They originally wanted him to move in Saturday upon arrival, but the school won't let him move in until Sunday. Either way, I fully expect Gabe to shake from his family for a little bit and escape to McKale Center with Ashley and Tarc for a little "21".

Thanks Jim. Yeah, I was updating our own basketball roster here at WSR and noticed that the school finally had listed all of the new player numbers. I like all the new numbers except for Hazzard's at #50...fugly.

  • Any reason why #1? Maybe the points per minute he'll score?
