  • Looks like we're not number one on either Aaron Gordon or Jabari Bird's lists any more. These were two guys I thought Miller was really focusing his recruiting efforts around. Who are we going for now that it looks like we're no longer the favorite with these guys?

  • If he was from WAshington or Oregon, then I'd be fine with it, but otherwise I'd ask him to remove us from list because we don't want to be grouped with those schools.

Aren't you embarrassed that Arizona has fallen so far that we are competing with Lorenzo Romar for recruits?

  • No, why? Romar's proven he can recruit NBA talent for the past decade. Would you have rather had Tony Wroten or Josiah Turner last season knowing what you now know? I've never been a fan of Romar the coach because I think his teams annually underachieve, but the guy is a proven recruiter.

Besides, we can't root for an improved Pac-12 Conference on one hand and then downgrade the conference on the other hand by belittling other programs.

  • Good point, we need to fire Byrne for getting Miller's contract extended.

I guess the fact the UK, KU, Duke, UNC UCLA, and AZ are also extreemly interested in Gordon, means those programs have dropped so lo to that they are competing with UW for a player... seriously, sometimes you gotta think...
James Harden played at ASU... so did eddie house...
both of those players could have played at UofA and started...

  • This thread made me laugh out loud...even Lute lost a couple to Romar toward the end. We need to be competing for all the northwest talent we can, we had some pretty good players come out of that area and Sean has yet to restablsih that pipeline. I hope we beat Romar for recruits for the next 10 years!

  • I like Gordon but he duplicateds Ash, Zeus and Jerrett and helikesUW andUNM better we are not rightfor eceryone. I believe Bird will go to CAL, but we ahve a great shot at Frazier, Bridgewater and Allen and that will be very good class All three play good D and Frazier and Bridgewater meet our needs for SF players.

Romar is a good coach and a very good recruiter.

  • Cats have gone head to head with UW since Romar got there. If I am not mistaken they have battled for the likes of Chol, Marcus Williams, Wroten, Brockman, Brandon Roy and several others.

Cats have also battled Oregon for guys over the years. In fact, because Olson often found "sleepers" he battled a lot of teams that were not elite and actually lost players to schools like OSU and USC in the past.

  • There's a lot more playing time available for forwards at UW than UA in the next couple of years. Bird would be great for us just because he fits the need of a true 2/3 wing player that can stretch the defense and drive to the basket. Gordon is a big step above him in talent level but he plays a similar style as Ashley so he might not be as much of a need for us.

Great point, and that's what coaches and players always need to take into account. It's not trying to land the 3-5 best players in the country. It's trying to get the highest rated player that addresses team needs.

It's unlikely that Chol, Ashley, Zeus or Jerrett depart for the NBA after next season so Arizona's 2013 class will be more true wing oriented, maybe a PG and just one true big. At least that's the current picture.

  • Bird and Gordon would be good for us but if you haven't seen Frazier play then you need to do some research! That kid is going to be amazing! His range is when he steps over half court. Think a bigger Salim with less attitude!

  • Gordon apparently broke his foot. He was slated to have a MRI on it yesterday to see if surgery is necessary. If the surgery is necessary, then he wil miss the entire(AAU) Summer.

Terrible form on his jumper. How can you compare that thing to Salim?

Wow...you must not be paying attention to the right guy. Frazier is the guy in the video hitting all those shots from deep with a silky smooth game.

    dbertw

  • His shot release is a "strength" issue. I know because I literally had the same shot release Frazier has when I was a sophomore. By my senior year after using weights for 2 seasons my elbow magically tucked into the slot for a much smoother release. Hopefully Frazier undergoes the same transition because if the does he could be a Top 5 player for sure.

It's obvious to me for 3 reasons: elbow slightly out (for extra leverage); brings ball slightly across his face (again for a little extra momentum); and sometimes has a slight hitch in his shot (again, that feeling of 'I've gotta give this so ooomph).

Add some strength and all will be very good. Also, what's to really like about Frazier's frame is how square his upper body is. That's a frame that could easily add 20 pounds of muscle over the course of the next 5-6 years to give him what Phil Jackson would call a very cut-up frame that can take a pounding and still make buckets.
