Korcheck to visit UA

  • Who do we take, the center or point guard with only one opening at this this time?

    PEB13

  • I believe we have two as the limit for 2012-2013 is 13, We will take TJ if he accepts and have not decided on Korcheck yet but may offer him but if we take him he redshirts next season and TJ must sit out.

JIM Ps I guess we only have 12 for next season so if we take both then someone leaves likely one of three players JT, Mayes or KNAT my guess Mayes

  • I think we end with TJ for sure and likely Korcheck as well. I like this because both will sit for a year and learn Miller's system so they won't create playing time issues for anyone this year. I agree with Jim that Mayes is likely gone. I could see KNAT stay or go I have no idea.

  • I'd really like to have Mayes stick around. I bet we offer both guys scholarships. KNat seems worthless at this point. Maybe he'll bolt and open up a spot for some guys who have the potential to contribute at some point down the road.

  • If TJsigns we do not go after Amadeo and his visit will be cancelled. This site shows Korcheck as cool and it appears his status is somewhere between warm and hot if he has already had an unofficial is scheduling an official. As to KNAT he is our best student but i do not know if he is graduating this year ahead of schedule. If so maybe he moves on but if not he comes back to finish his course work since he is one of few true student athletes. If Mayes leaves then we only have 3 scholarship guards although SOLO and KP can bring the ball up the court. This will be thin at guard but we will cope.

  • I heard that TJ has agreed to come to The Cats.

Yeah, Arizona only has 12 for this current 2012 Class. Honestly, I haven't been tracking this specific recruit closely. We have him listed as "cool" across the board because we've gotten mixed messages regarding his interests and we like to give warm, warmer, etc as accurately as possible.

He would definitely be a nice safety valve for the club and would see minutes a year from now regardless of what bigs are still on the roster. However, unlike McConnell who would contend for a starting role immediately Korcheck would be more of a glue guy to fill out the roster, and every team needs role players who can contribute 3-10 minutes a game as needed.

  • He is so warm he is likely to commit no later than Monday.

  • Some one check my math;

    -6 + 4 = -2

We lost Momo, Sidiki, Wise, Fogg, BLav & Tree, all on scholarship. So shouldn't we have 2 spots available?

Worst case, make Knat a manager and give him a different scholarship.

  • We have 7 active scholarship players on the roster right now:

    Solomon Hill
    Nick Johnson
    Josiah Turner
    Jordin Mayes
    Angelo Chol
    Kevin Parrom
    Kyryl Natyazhko

    4 scholarship already signed:

    Gabe York
    Brandon Ashley
    Kaleb Tarczewski
    Grant Jerrett

    That's 11 scholarships.

**On a side note, I erred in my assessment earlier because Korcheck would be eligible to play this upcoming season. For some reason, in my mind, I had him sitting out a year along with McConnell who would actually be a transfer from a D1 program. No wonder I've had zero excitement about this possibility. In fact, I'm still not excited at all if this actually unfolds. It's pretty inconsequential in my opinion but as I said above every team needs role players too.

  • It was Korcheck who said he wanted to take a redshirt year and that was why AZ is good for him.

I thought the deal with NIc Wise was that Dondre would have a scholarship here. But if we only have 12 scholarships, then did we have 13 last year or is Wise not a scholarship player?

Also - if a guy transfers and red shirts or has to sit out a year, does the year he sits out count against the scholarships?

Also - I'm all for getting both players - seem like we have a serious retention problem and need all the warm bodies we can get. Miller will not be able to run his 13 man rotation (or whatever it is) until he can retain 13 scholarships players and that's at least 2 seasons away. If we lose 1/2 of the incoming class again, another random starter, have a major bust and an injury that effects a starter for an entire season, perhaps career... we're right back to where we were this year. So frankly, I think we are desperate at this point, especially at Point Guard. Mayes is solid but not likely going to set any records at Arizona, Turner is a total crap shoot at this point, even if he gets his head straight I am not certain he has the requisite talent to play PG in the PAC-12 and we don't have anyone else. SO for the love of god, let's at least get some backups to the reliable but pretty average guy and to the head case teetering on the edge of Burger King Career.

    Wine,

I believe we are still being penalized 1 scholarship for the upcoming year, no?

  • The answer is under the penalty we only have 12 scholarships for the 2012-2013 season. Right now we have 7 retuurning and four signed so that is 11. We have offered TJ and if he comes he sits out but still uses a scholarship for this coming season. Korcheck has not been offered but may be later. I f he comes he redshirts per his request and if both sign then someone leaves and the candidates are JT (not likely), Jordin Mayes ( more likely but still not likely) and KNAT (likely). My gues TJ commits Monday and Korcheck comes and KNAT moves on.

  • According to the whiney beeyotch from the other Ariz site we are likely getting both TJ and Korcheck in next day or two. He is also saying our backcourt will see changes and some people are suggesting Turner is a goner.

As for the schollie situation, if both players use a schollie then they will count in their redshirt year. Sometimes coaches can work some magic by giving a diff type of schollie or having someone be a walk-on etc. The likely scenario however is that someone leaves.

I'm actually not happy about either of these players coming on board because I'd rather save the schollies for better players down the road. TJ had a decent year but did so in a mid major conf which is perfectly fine but I think we should go after players that have a chance to be cream of the crop. I personally want to see Turner stick around as he has much more potential if Miller can do his job and develop it. As for korcheck, our frontline is loaded with players and we have the chance to pick up some pretty good players in future classes as well and tying up a schollie on him isn't the best idea IMO.

On a side note, it's nice for the whiney little beeyotch to ban me because I chuckle at his pissin and moaning about silly stuff.

  • McConnell makes sense. Korcheck doesn't, but that's just my opinion. At Arizona, I wouldn't want to get too accustomed to bringing in JC players all the time.

  • I understnd thaat Korcheck has now been offered and has committed although that has not been announced yet and that TJ will likely commit as well. ADV may still also be recruited which means one or two existing players will have to vaxcate. Ifit is one i believe it will be KNAT if two add Jordin Mayes or mayvbe Josian.

Jim PS Korcheck has committed to Arizona

I think he makes perfect sense. Name one UA big on the current roster that has proven himself at this level? There aren't any. I think it'll be nice to have a 22-23 year old experienced post player. Let's just hope jarrett Ashley and zeus live up to expectations and that this kid is just relied on to give quality depth.

I agree. Knat was on pace to graduate in 2.5 years last I heard. My guess he walks in May and transfers to go to graduate school somewhere where he gets minutes.

I think that the following three players are now gone: KN, Mayes and even Josiah Turner. We have taken Korcheck and we will take JT McConnell. We may also take ADV. It is going to be a whole new roster of players for next season.
