Mark Lyons

  • Saw Goodman put out the transfer news on Mark Lyons (pG Xavier). Any chance?

    Wildcat_Brad

  • Not likely. He has been kicked off the team for bad behavior. He is too toxic for xsean to handle. He does like Arizona but I doubt Sean can take the risk.

  • There is a chance, but several things would have to happen.

  • i am assuming you saying on the player side. the personal connection is certainly there.

    Wildcat_Brad

  • he was thought of highly enough to be recognized at the team banquet:

Junior Mark Lyons won the Gordon E. Nead Award, which is given annually to the team's most improved player, for the second straight year. Lyons was second on the team in scoring (11th in the A-10) at 15.1 ppg. Lyons, who now has 1,194 career points, is 28th on XU’s all-time scoring list.

  • It's a done deal...

    dbertw

  • u have some insider info?

    Wildcat_Brad

  • Not a donedeal yet. May be getting close. In order to be eligible right away he msut graduate from Xavier this summer which he is on line to do.

There is an excellent chance this one happens but it is not a done deal.

  • Please be specifc...what is Toxic about him?

    Mrzipityduda

  • What is toxic he tends to get suspendedfor fighting and has been dismissed from he team after being their second best player for three years, The good is does not gwr along with Chris Mack but apparently gets along with Book and Sean. If the staff supports this I am all in on it.

  • I don't think Miller viewed the fighting as a toxic thing based on the comments he made at the time. Here's one national hoop analyst weighing in:

  • This seems like a great fit. The kid knows CSM and Book and has already committed to playing for them once. Now we have an opening for a 1 year PG and here is a proven point guard with one year of eligibility left. If Miller goes after him, I'm all for it. Also... I don't think Miller sees the Xavier/Cincy fight in a way that would taint any player who participated in it. I think he saw more of the intense emotions that led up to the fight rather than the immaturity of the whole event. I have a feeling we're gonna go after this kid. And if we do, I bet we get him.

  • It will be Julyor august before resolved as first he muist graduate from Xavier which will take summer courses to accomplish. If that happens then he can consider a transfer with immediate eligiblity.

    Jim

    jjones163

  • Looks like it is going to happen as it is being reported as a strong possibility in the Tucson media.

Arizona just got a point guard for next season which will help with all the freshmen.

    BlkMtn

  • So we had 4 incoming freshmen, added 2 transfers, (1 Juco and 1 D1) , then a non-scholi (Hazzard) and now a transfer.

8 new guys on the roster!!!! WOW!

This is a major rebuild for year three of a regime, but it was necessary.

  • I gotta say that if this goes down big props to Miller. Team didn't meet expecations and he cleans house, that will certianly get everyones attention that Miller is not screwing around here.

  • Yes, this is going to be quite the interesting year. Let's get KP, Solo, NJ and Chol on the court with a bunch of newbies and transfers and let's roll!

    dbertw

  • Ima drink with wineknows glass here and say I don't think this is good b/c it proves Miller has no faith in NJ or Mayes running the point.

A degree from Arizona gets u into graduate school, a degree from asu gets u into high school.

well, it's never bad to have a senior PG on the team with experience. NJ has always been a 2 guard. The truth is, do we even know if he's transferring anywhere? I don't have premium, but I havent seen anything say he is transferring. just the word is he is transferring. I also don't see how this proves miller doesn't have faith in Mayes or NJ. He had Turner here last year, does that mean he didn't have faith in them? truth is, you can never have too many options, and with injuries, it's a good idea to have a senior PG.

Sorry, I see the confusion, but I did not mean to imply that I thought it was bad. I agree with Liver:

"I gotta say that if this goes down big props to Miller. Team didn't meet expecations and he cleans house, that will certianly get everyones attention that Miller is not screwing around here."

But I think it has less to do with cleaning house and more to do with being desperate for viable contributors. As I understand it Miller can't really work his system until he goes 9 or 10 high quality scholarship athletes deep and he's only got 4 proven players returning. Mayes, Johnson, Hill and Parrom. So he needs to find 5 or 6 guys who can contribute immediately at a high level and, IMO, while Juco's and transfers may have less long term upside, they can offer rock solid, high quality play immediately plus leadership, guile and mental toughness and they can mentor the younger kids.

I commend Miller for taking that route and don't think he really had much of a choice if he wanted to keep his job. I'm still not gonna let him off the hook for the unforgivable, unnecessary and disastrous ASU loss - but it is clear to me that he is not letting himself off the hook either and it will be fun to watch it all come together.

I think I'm finally realizing that you aren't as mad at Millers performance last year, as you are mad that he lost to ASU.(I'm more mad at the performance) it's like that one loss sealed his fate in your mind. It was really bad and shouldn't have happened. I keep telling myself that Miller won't switch defenses because he's preparing this team for not this next year, but the year after, when the players he has will be sophmores and juniors that have the ability/skill to win a NC, and doesn't want them to slack one bit. like he's teaching them and taking loss's and using it as a learnming experience.
anyways, that's what I'm telling myself. I'll give him this year, and unless we win the conference or come in 2nd behind a top10 UCLA team, then I'll be pissed the way you seem to be now.
