Questionable game time decisions by Miller

  • I hate being one to rip on the coach but as I watched the last couple minutes of the game I noticed a couple of decisions by Miller that seemed crazy or worse like someone that wants to say he had control of the game outcome by his substitutions. In the last minute or so of the game as we trailed by 2 Miller pulled JT out and put BLav in (as we were going back on DEFENSE! I wasn't so perturbed with that b/c I figured he's putting Lav in for a potential 3 pointer when we get the ball back. What happened next was a complete shocker: we got the stop on D and then called timeout and Miller put JT back in for BLav headed into offense. And the worst part was next: JT went out and immediately put up an airball 3. So Miller was so astute that he wanted to put BLav in for DEFENSE??? And then have JT back in to take a THREE???? WTF is going on with this team from top to bottom? JT hit a few shots to help us get back into the game so I would have been perfectly fine just leaving him in the entire end but if you're going to sub a guy in that is known for his 3's and reviled for his DEFENSE only to take him out when we were headed to the part of the floor he could actually help, then my question is WTF are you doing?

    Again, I hate to be 'that guy' that questions the coach that has taken two different teams to Elite 8's, but this year Miller seems to be so flabbergasted that his decision making process appears to be in shambles at times.

    On a side note this team has no true captain and we all seem to be waiting for next year when we get the 4 new kids but my question is even adding that group, is there a true captain in the mix? Solo seems to wait too long before taking over a game and he's too sporadic to be a captain, Fogg will be gone, JT should be that person to take over leadership but at the moment I just don't see it. The 3 bigs coming in would not seem to be captain material. Gabe York seems to have the attack mode required by a captain so perhaps it will be him, but again he'll be a frosh and I'm not sure a frosh will lead the team in captain mode.

  • Question away ! ! Thats what we do when we lose. I now think back and did see and wondered also. Confusing at best. You arent the only one questioning this team. Had we won....a different story...but still some questions. This bteam should have beat them by 12 easy. Since our coach is one of the best (now and then) FT shooters in the nation...wtf is going on with the FT misses. These guys need some focus and some basics
    I am now an "Official : I hate Derrick"!!!!

  • In response to the BLav substitution;
    Singler hit a three over turner (maybe Fogg). BLav was inserted for height to cover singler.
    i dont know why Turner was resubstituted for Blav on offense. though there are reasonable possibilities.
    in the end, Blav missed and open 3 and Fogg missed an 8 footer that i thought was in. the shots where there.
    there are a lot of possibilities of who to play at the end. you just have to pick one and go with it. it didnt work this time.

    Miller stated that he wanted Turner to drive to the basket and instead he throws up the air ball.

    There's not a scenario in the world I want to see BLav substituted for DEFENSE and if that's what Miller did then he has def lost his marbles.
