Thoughts on Zeus

  • Things I have noticed about him.
Not once did I see him dribble to the floor and then go to the basket....gotta love that
Fierce fighter for rebounds....mentality of "This is mine" !!!
    Blocks out

Gezzzz I mean folks...how many times do we scream at KNAt or even Bramlett...dont bring it to the floor with the gremlins way down there.

Add 20# to that upper body and watch out Ware twins and sluggo.

The kid had a dbl/dbl in the Jordan Game and not one....not one play was sew\t for him. He made his own. wAIT UNTIL mILLER gets him some plays.
Looking forward to this kid (POLSKI) playing for AZ
Glad they dropped them to Number 2......they were insulted...go CATS

  • Good point Zip. Amazing how many high school big man (probably 80%) bring the ball down to where it can be snatched by guards. Remember, Zeus was coached one-on-one by Carroll, the former Boston Celtics coach. He's been taught well on the game's fundamentals. Now, he's just got to put it all together at the next level.

  • My thoughts on him..... not one minute of college hoops experience and there are 6 months or so that he has left to flake out, not show up, leave after being here for 8 seconds, decide to transfer, or play like a JUCO reject at this level.

If he first plays against ASU and then helps us beat them... I'll be on board. Until then, he's just another Knat, Sidiki or Turner....

ooops I don't want you thinking I'm picking on Miller...Please substitute Ebi for Sidiki and Withey for Turner.

  • It will be refreshing to see a big guy avoiding the need to check the ball pressure after every rebound. That is a directive I can still hear decades later.

  • He's going to wear our colors....I'll support him.

You can say this for any high school player in the country who is about to begin their college career.

  • Defensively, this is something AZ hasn't had in a long while - a 7 footer patrolling the paint. Even if he doesn't come close to setting blocks records - there will be plenty of altered shots just due to his presence. And with Grant/BrAsh/Chol cleaning up on the weakside, there won't be many 2nd chance opportunities for the opposition. Which would be a welcome sight. All we really need him to do is defend and rebound anyway. There will be plenty of opportunities to "get his".

More important than blocks is what Tewa has described. One reason the "smaller" Wildcats struggled against teams like UCLA this year wasn't because the Bruins were better, but because UCLA was able to contest Arizona's shots due to their height.

Regardless of what Arizona's freshman produce on offense next season, all of them will make an impact on the defensive end of the floor in terms of contesting shots and at least making it a lot more difficult to score on Arizona inside than what we saw this past season. The good news too is Arizona would be that susceptible to foul trouble along its frontline because even Ashley has the height (maybe not the strength) to play the four or five when needed.

And in fact... I do. But I can't help but notice that every single team we played last year has a 7 footer or three who was better than any big guy we had. Somehow our attrition and lack of development at the bigs hurt us far more than any other team. And yes, I'm a little bitter about it. When Colorado and SDSU each have 5 big men better than anyone we have and a guy with no integrity (Withey) gets to play in the NCAA championship game... it's a little frustrating.

  • What's that expression, "Sh*t Happens." Try and get over it. Sports is as much about bouncing back as it riding the wave of success.

  • Thanks Gary. Had it for a while. Got it from Woody Harrelson's character in "Zombieland". Thought it was true for a lot of things as well as funny - the quote, although the movie was okay too.

So are you going to bitch and moan about every player and compare them to KNat or Sidiki? Why pick those two to compare to instead of picking DWill to compare to? Miller has had one guy that didn't develop in KNat and Sidiki doesn't count since he was here for 10 minutes. You always going to be a negative Nancy around here?

  • Good post. Another thing to consider is Sidiki dropped out of the Top 100 recruits before he reached Arizona. Typically, any recruiting service's Top 100 represents about 20-25 five star athletes and then 75-80 four star prospects, which means in the eyes of most basketball anaylsts Sidiki was a 3-star recruit. In short, he wasn't exactly a bust.
