Tony Parker to UCLA

  • Don't they already have a fat ass center?
I'm not understanding Howlands recruiting this season. I get adding 2 wing players, maybe 3, but another fat ass center? hasn't he learned? Dude needs another guard...

  • Regardless of who he needs or how he recruits - this is a killer class and exactly what the Pac needs. I doubt the conference will be blasted on like it has been in the past. Looking forward to some heated battles vs UCLA in the near future. This is definitely what the Pac needs - UCLA and ARIZONA at the top imo.

no doubt, but I would have been happier with them getting another PG so they don't get killed by OOC teams... those big guys can do damage, but they need help. I guess there were no top quality guards left. I'm just imagining who eats less between JSmith and this guy is going to get the PT. actually just who eats less junk food

  • This is great news for the Pac-12 conference. This probably means that UCLA is going to jump ahead of UofA in most recruiting class rankings, but honestly... who cares. We're going to be vastly imporved next season. I like this pick-up for UCLA because it should help them really beat up on smaller teams and it gives them an insurance policy in case Smith isn't able to trim down this summer. This should also help them avoid those bad non-con losses that plagued them last season.
Honestly though... I think our bigs are going to do a ton of damage against a much slower and less explosive UCLA front line. I like the pickup, but it doesn't really worry me.

  • This is Howland's wet dream. He will have the biggest, slowest team in the history of college hoops. The only true point guard on the roster is Larry Drew and the only real shooter is Tyler Lamb (35% from three) and maybe the fat kid from Oak Hill. How will he get effective minutes with the logjam of big slow guys at forward and center? David Wear, Travis Wear, Josh Smith, Tony Parker and Kyle Anderson all playing the 4-5 and some 3. That's a lot of height and not a lot of athleticism. Plus, you get Shabazz who will demand the ball and doesn't like to pass. Although they got some highly ranked guys, they are going to have a hard time figuring out how to use them effectively.

    great post labeardown.

Parker at least has a better motor than Smith, but definitely has the size trouble where he could go south quick if he takes anything for granted. Like others, I'm glad UCLA and Arizona are landing top recruits in bunches right now. As UCLA and UA goes, the Pac-12 goes no matter how great a Stanford, Cal, Oregon or Washington run through the NCAA's are from time to time. Nothing garners more national respect than when Arizona and UCLA are at the head of the class out west.

  • Thank goodness the NCAA inserted the new rule where an AAU or high school coach going to a college D-1 Program can't recruit their former players for one whole year.

UCLA assistant coach Korey McCray was the AAU coach for club team Atlanta Celtics. He joined UCLA last summer before coaching both Parker and fellow UCLA commit Jordan Adams earlier that summer.
