Tyler Ennis eliminates Arizona

  • Bummer, but not really a surprise, IMO. Ennis kind of reminded me of Bibby, in some respects. Would love to keep recruiting his teammate, Isaiah Briscoe, but his recruitment is looking bleak for the Cats, as well. Still early with Briscoe, though.

  • The "too many point guards" comment by the father was a bit of a head-scratcher. If there was a silver-lining in all this, it is that Ennis and the father evaluated T.J. McConnell's play and decided to take a flyer.

That bodes well for Wildcat fans.

  • Yeah, Ennis had been mentioning the Cats less and less the past few weeks. Wasn't in his top seven a few days ago and I guess we know why. Realistically, the Cats are set for three years.

  • Disappointing sure but not surprising. Especially after his top 7 comment Brad is referring to, it kind of was expected.

  • Seems strange for the kid to shy away from competition like that. How are going to play in the league if can't beat out the guy in front of you on the depth chart at Arizona? It isn't like anyone think TJ is the next Chris Paul.

  • Exactly....

    Ashton

  • Exactly liver. That's one of the things I don't get with recruits these days. They want to come in for "immediate playing time" right away without first EARNING the spot. If you're as good as you think you are to be calling the shots, come on in and show it.

    Okay...now I'm cracking up.

    lol

Probably could be embarrassing for fat-finger typers on this board to mistype the "E" for the "P".

  • It would be nice to break into the CIA Bounce AAU program, though. It seems as though the majority of kids that come from that program play a high level, and all pretty much high major/DI players.

Having said that, I do agree that shying away from competition is a big red flag for any coach. The best thing that can happen is going against great players every day in practice. It will only make you better if you have the dedication and drive to succeed. It seems like it's different generation of player these days. It almost seems like there is a sense of entitlement with some of these guys. To a certain degree, it's not hard to understand with the way some of these kids are coddled. I just hope that they turn out for the better in the long term, but I guess only time will tell.

  • I read it as less as shying away from competition and more trying to avoid a perceived logjam at his spot. Most top-25 kids believe in their heart they are one and done and try to avoid places where they can't start. It is just the way it is now.

And THAT, my friends, is one of the major problems with recruits and college hoops these days...

  • Don't worry about Briscoe. Arizona really likes him, but wants to conduct a true evaluation of him before getting overly aggressive. If the Cats make a move, then you'll know they like what they have seen and will see as the summer months unfold.

  • To this day a friend of mine from HS was named Ennis.....always and to this day last 50 year reunion...we referred to him as "ENNIS THE PENIS" Thank god he had/has a sense of humor.

  • I know Arizona has been recruiting/keeping in touch with Briscoe since last Summer, but it's tough to pull that type of talent off the East Coast unless there is some kind of draw out West, ie family, coaching etc. His cousin, Kyrie Irving had a pretty good year in the league this past season(ROY).clap

  • I know...

I was sure that Irving would need a couple of years to develop in the league and instead the number one pick pulls off Rookie of the Year...over Williams.

Good lineage there, not arguing against the point...

Looks like Briscoe may be visiting Arizona this Summer....he apparently didn't get Ennis' memo on Arizona.

Briscoe's a 2015 so the Arizona PG situation will make more sense to him. Also, as good as Briscoe is, he's not a one and done by any stretch unless he grows another 2-3 inches (which is possible due to his age).

He's already excellent at driving into the lane and hitting the quick pull up jumper. He plays beneath the rim, though, so more development to come. As I said above, Arizona's very interested in Briscoe and will get its chance to make an impression if the unofficial visit materializes.

*I can tell you this right now, if Arizona could get the 2015 backcourt duo of Briscoe and Tyler Dorsey (Ribet Academy in Los Angeles/Belmont Shores AAU) they would take them both in a heartbeat.

  • I am not so sure. I watched the video and he did not list Arizona among his top schools, but then asked about his early favorites he said he visited Syracuse and Arizona "so I guess those two." He then talked about the early visits and said at the time they offered a lot of playing time. I almost get the impression he misunderstood the interviewer and was talking about who he liked earlier in the process.
