  • Whats good, how's recruiting going for you guys? I hope they televise your game vs Washington St. Mike Leach vs Rich Rod sure be a high flying affair.

Never mind I just noticed Wash St isn't on your schedule. That wouldve been interesting.

  • Easley, we are burning through counters towards our 25 at an unprecedented rate (currently at 22 verbals -but we have a couple more to give from last season when it comes time to put pen to pad). RR is recruiting like someone poured five hour energy drink, and maybe something else, into his coffee. We haven't seen the likes of this before in our laid-back area of the country.

The fall-back is that RR recruiting method is not based on stars. He seems to like or see something and offer before the rest has a chance to catch-up.

You are right, it is too bad we missed on the Cougs this year. I'm tempted to take them in the Apple Cup though.

Feel free to peruse the football section of this board. What are guys thinking from a rational perspective for SC's overall W/L column?

  • I'm hearing everything from 10-2 or 9-3 as far as our record goes, our biggest hurdles IMO will be @ LSU and Arkansas who ALWAYS gives us fits. Georgia will be a huge game from the standpoint that whoever wins typically has the inside track to win the eastern division, however last year we won all of our divisonal games but finished second behind Georgia only because they didn't have to play Alabama, LSU or Arkansas from the western division.
So it looks like the key for us is to at least come out with a split for the LSU and Arkansas portion of our schedule to win the east, because with Georgia's schedule they have the easiest path for the second year in a row. The Missouri game for Georgia and us will also be very important to watch in the SEC east. The Clemson game at the end of the year is always a huge game just becuase we're bitter rivals.

Personally I think we may do as well as 9-3 with loses to LSU (tough to win in Baton Rouge), Arkansas (until we beat them we'll always be underdogs), and I'll have to say Missouri just because they are new and a "throw it all over the field" type of team from what I hear, which given our secondary will be a tough challenge for us.

As far as recruiting we are doing pretty well, we picked up two big time OLB commits in Larenz Bryant Charlotte, NC the number one recruit out of North Carolina number five nationally for his position and Matt Rolin the number eleven ranked OLB recruit nationally and the number eight ranked in the state of Virginia both recently competed in "The Open" in Oregon and represented very well. So we are very excited about the upcoming season and recruiting.

By the way how far are you guys from ASU and who holds the advantage in your series? Are they usually close games? Anyone can answer these questions if you have any input?

i have to cringe here, rr was over at clemson, though, to his credit, not for long.
sorry could not help myself. but i dont think the guy forgot how to coach or recruit.

as for us, momentum is going to be a big thing. early on i think we need to show we can play defense at or near the level in the past year. that is a big old if we can. nobody knows for sure but i think the pieces are there & if clowney really busts out. who knows?

on offense again big if m lattimore can be anywhere near productive as he was before his injury we should be ok

numbers never were my strong suit

  • Well, the way I see it, and mind you this is my opinion, Arky may not be so tough with all the turmoil in the coaching situation. I factor in psychological advantages and would take an SC straight-up win in a pick-em between the two clubs. Missouri will be interesting but once again, I would take an SC win because they never seem to win the games that really matter, and quite frankly, didn't have a signature win last year. I really don't think Mizzou is going to bring jack crap to the SEC. 8-5 last year with a win on a down Texas team and loss to...

    That brings us to...ASU.

(aka: assu, aswho?, scumdevils, scummies, little forkers, Lil Forkers, blank stare smiley icon, and that is just the family friendly associations. I'm sure I missed some other ones as well).

To talk about UofA and...who the hell we talking about again?...rivalries in the past would require a novella at least. Epic rivalry that is on the ESPN network this year. Worth a look.

To give an idea of what this game means to some people, 1-11 is a successful year as long as it means pounding ASU into the ground. A better survey question to pose to both teams fans, "would you accept a 5-7 season if it meant beating your rival into the ground or a 6-6 bowl season if it meant your rival gets to beat you into the ground?"

ASU fans would answer, "we can't count that high".

  • Oh yeah, just to finish off the thought.

Georgia pick will be a game-time decision where I lick my two fingers and test the wind.

    LSU...you are effed.

    lol

nobody wants to play lsu at their place. other than bama you could say just about everyone would be so effed in death valley

their fan behavior is off the charts from the sometimes lurid recollections. they have a distinct rep in the league....even in the unculured deep south, those cajum fans are really tough to stomach

    Fine...you got me.

Just like I was talking out of the side-of-my-neck about crying over one game ever. I was abject reenactment of The Wailing Woman during both of our football and basketball campaigns last season.

    lol

I could be wrong but I think that one of our editors can at least stomach their bar-b-que.

Make no mistake, I'll be pulling hard for any LSU/Bama loss this year. I stuck by my commitment to not watch part two of the series and helped drive the TV ratings down to lowest levels seen in a BSc bowl.*

As we have talked about in earlier threads, it's extremely difficult for a Pac-12 fan to pull for anything in the SEC, though I could get behind Vanderbilt in football. ;-)

Still, I was pulling for Spurrier last season and see no reason not to pull for him again this season. I fall on the side of paying the players an additional college-cost stipend. I'm still unsure if this should be limited to TV revenue-generating sports or all college athletics. My thinking is that it falls under the same athletic dept., so spread the wealth, and btw, include the fans with lowering the ticket prices.

*Not true. I snuck a peek at the second half in a bar near the University with my wife and two friends that have no interest in college football whatsoever. So, yeah, it didn't count.

there have been some complaints about drinks being poured on fans from upper level, beer, soft drinks whatever.

of course, there are some grade a arsebutts at most any large gathering of any sort, so you just have to ignore some things
