Play Of The Game Pt. 2
Nick Johnson gets out on the break and not onlyinthrows down the dunk, but posterizes an ASU defender in the process.
Arizona goes on a 7-0 run right before the half to stretch an eight-point lead to 15 at halftime.
Gotta Like That
Prior to the game one of the Wildcat cheerleaders was breaking down the various scenarios that Arizona needed to win a share in the Pac-12 title. She was telling her fellow cheerleaders what had to happen in the UCLA/Washington and Utah/Oregon games. The point was moot, as moments later UCLA held on to beat Washington. Still, you have to like a comely young lady who knows her hoops.
Size Does Not Matter
6-3 Nick Johnson guarded 6-7 Jonathan Gilling for much of the game. Gilling scored just 3 points, hitting a three with Johnson out of the game.
There was not one, not two, but three kids in the Zona Zoo dressed in banana costumes. Stranger still, they were not sitting by each other, but independently thought it was a goo idea to dress as a brightly colored tropical fruit.
Sign Of The Game
Wilbur found a sign in the crowd that said "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly." Under the "good" was a pic of Wilbur. Under the "bad" was a pic of the current Sparky and under the "ugly" was a picture of the new Sparky.
Runner up is a sign that said "Fear the York" obviously a play on ASU's slogan of "Fear the Fork."
Second runner up was the sign that read "ASU is the ugly girl that never gets asked to the dance #MarchMadness"
The first four minutes of the second half were what Sean Miller called the most bizarre of his coaching and playing career. Arizona was called for eight fouls in less than 3:00 and ASU added three more fouls before the television timeout.
ASU had three players, Jonathan Gilling, Jordan Bachynski and Chris Colvin, foul out and at one point around the 9:00 mark had all three on the floor with four fouls.
At one point Nick Johnson committed a foul at mid court but the P.A. announcer thought the foul was called on the other No. 13, Bachynski and it was assumed he fouled out. The officials corrected the mistake and Bachynski fouled out a few minutes later.
Well Played Pt. 1
The Zona Zoo serenaded the Sun Devil players who fouled out with chants of “right, left” as they walked toward the bench. As they approached their seat and sat down the crowd screamed “sit down.” The final two ASU players started to sit down, drew the “sit down” chant, but stood back up, dekeing the crowd so to speak. The first player, Jonathan Gilling, waited to sit down as a Wildcat player was attempting his free throw.
Well Played Pt. 2
The Zona Zoo started an “ASU sucks” chant that drew the ire of two ASU co-eds in the adjacent section. They began yelling at the student section, pointing to their ASU t-shirts and flashing the three-finger ASU salute (“the shocker?”) As the two “young ladies” left arena the students began the “right, left” chant. This drew the ire of one of the girls, who stopped at the top of the steps, started screaming at the Zoo. As they started leaving again the students against chanted “right, left” and the girl who was yelling, walked with her arm straight up, middle finger blaring.
Bachynski and Ruslan Pateev are a combined 14-foot, two inches but combined for just one rebound.
